I did this once, except with cheats on. Ended up with like 100 mines exploding at once, freezing the game for a few minutes.

Some dude once made this in UT2k4.
It actually took the game several hours to calculate all those exploding barrels, he just recorded one frame per 10 seconds, I think.

From time to time I join the ONS server I used to play on in the past and immediately get welcomed by old regulars. Heck, we even see players who are completely new to the game from time to time.
And it's nice to see people still create new maps and mods for it. It even caused me to pick up the work on a project I started a few years ago.

UT2k4 became quite popular again after people realized that UT3 could just not live up to its name.


I dare to say that UT2k4 will not die until Epic decides to shut down the master server. But given that even the master server for UT99 is still running and Epic doesn't really need to worry about its finances, I am not too worried about that happening any time soon.
