Looking back... anyone remember that Biodome greybox video?

It's amazing how much that map changed from start to finish. (at 1:45 he brings up the big map for a split second)

I wish they'd show more behind the scenes stuff like this. I'd love to have another look at the new eclipse... or maybe a before/after comparison of Remedy's eclipse and the new one, just to tease.

sadly there seems to be next to zero interaction between the community and the uwe mappers; Except for insane helping out on technical issues( credit where credits due). while I understand they want a large impact with reveals I feel postmortems on the maps would be a nice way of interacting with the community, promoting the game and helping to teach community mappers. I've pushed the issue a few times but I get the impression there's no desire or drive to engage the people who would be interested in this.
You can always read KungFuSquirrel's in-depth postmortem of the original veil for ns1. more of these please!

And it's very mysterious too! Remedy disappears and UWE just HAS to jump on that map and remake it... Even the guy who made Summit just disappeared off the face of the earth as soon is it became a stock map. Kinda fishy if you ask me... ;)

I believe FMphone is still alive and making cs:go maps http://steamcommunity.com/id/FMPONE
My assumption with remedy is that he got disgruntled with other people touching the map. I know I'd hate it if someone took over on my project and dismantled my work. He's left the SCC group so it seems he has been on steam but The fact no one has seen him online might be the result of a mass NS2 blocking! Thats my guess anyway But who knows!?

who else (other than hugh or possibly the artists working on biodome) think that the biodome update was as big a gorgeous?
what does hugh mean by "as big as gorgeous"? only hugh knows but he does mention that gorgeous was big because it contained "new maps, units, abilities, spectator modes, performance improvements"

anyhoo @BeigeAlert i totally forgot about this video man! thanks for the reminder! oh the good ol' days :)

    +1

Not enough is done to promote the maps imo. Even when layout is still subject to complete change and the map is greybox I believe people will still want a sneak peak about what is going on. It helps keep interest and enthusiasm up.

Speaking from a playtester/map tester pov when there was stuff released to the public I always enjoyed seeing people get excited about what was coming.

Thats is correct, FMPONE moved on to the Mapcore and is making CSGO maps. He has 3 maps included in the latest CSGO community map packs. Made some nice bucks out of it, really cool and well deserved!!

What I heard (red) is that he was involved in the development but then disappeared to rain forest to discover his inner self :-D There was quite a rumble about Eclipse style in the discussion under the Eclipse news post.

Your assumption about Remedy is incorrect. Remedy was involved in the initial discussion phases when we first started work on the official version of the map. We showed him concept art and examples of the redesigned visual look of some of the initial areas and he was very much on board with the direction the map was going in. He admitted that he didn't have a lot to time to spend on the map, and also that he preferred to hand off greybox and layout duties to other people as that stuff was not very fun for him. He said if he had time he wouldn't mind working on some specific areas of the map, and it was always planned that he would help out in that capacity, but as was mentioned by other people already, he just disappeared and we haven't heard from him.

I doubt anyone would disagree with the new art direction of eclipse, I was simply going off how possessive I get with my own stuff.
Its Just strange and sad that someone so talented and involved in the community would vanish like that. Here's to hoping he's okay.

    He is most likely alright.

The remake is a celebration of his vision! :D
