Hello all:

I want Jambi to be official. I don't have time to re-texture it all on my own so I am posting to see if anyone has any interest in helping me. So you may ask, what is the benefit to you in being helping me out.... see below

Why be apart of this project?
-Jambi has a well-tested, proven layout. It has been featured in the ENSL and will continue to do so. There is no gameplay tested needed.
-A chance to be apart of a project that will eventually become an official map.
-Jambi started out as a community map. A few people can concentrate on certain portions of the map and make it perfect.
-The foundation is already laid out. Unlike 95% of the maps out there, this project will finish and it will look great.

What are the requirements
-I need a few (two to three) experienced mappers to help me.
-There will be semi-strict texturing guidelines and themes that you must abide by. Otherwise, this project will be all for nothing if everyone has free reign to map as they see pleased.
-I will oversee this project. All core map changes MUST be accepted by me. You will have freedom to work as you please but given that I know the map inside and out, I don't want any walls or boxes to shift around without some form of notice and reasoning behind it.

I know this may be a long shot here... But I am hoping that a few of us can come together and take this map finally where it belongs.

If you are interested
Please PM me.

Thank you,

xtc

Here is a few screens of roughly the theme I am going for.... http://imgur.com/a/IwBDI#0

I might be interested... how much of a time commitment do you think this might be?

Also, what kind of changes are you expecting to take place? You say re-texturing... does that mean you need people to MAKE custom textures for you, or are we just swapping out the old ones?

Well, ideally if you want a map to become official at this stage in time it would need custom props and textures, as they won't create anything new at this point. I sadly have to agree with why it wasn't accepted in the first place, it's just too dull and grey, not expecting it to be like biodome or anything but I think you should use Eclipse stuff when it comes out and use some of those props and textures. As it's a color scheme we have to see in maps yet from the previews of it it. That's my only nitpick of the map. Of course this map was also made way back when the many new assets we have now didn't exist, so it's completely understandable.

No, no new textures are expected to be made. What I mean b re-texturing is more like... cleaning it up. The textures don't blend well together. There is just odd pieces of textures put next to eachother. I want there to be a more coherent and cleaner look... not just a bunch of random grey textures next to each other.

I am currently re-doing marine start. Once I finish that I will post a before and after of what is expected to be done. But I would consider it more *cleaning* it up with using the new biodome / descent textures and trims.

I worked on this for a around 2-3 hours today... It is not complete but it should give a rough idea of the theme I am going for. A descent / biodome theme that is not entirely clean. Note: I didn't do the lighting.

I'd recommend getting someone on your team to exclusively focus on lighting. This will ensure a more "consistent" lighting "feeling". Also by making it one person's sole work, it won't be treated like a "secondary task that just has to be done so people can actually see all the work I put into the geometry" like it often is in one-man projects.

Nice. Hope this kicks off quickly.
tbh I like the broken down factory sort of look though. All the official NS2 maps are so clean and fresh.

Oh yes, this is much better. I still vote for eclipse textures though ^_^. Can't be too long before release.

Jambi will still retain a "broken down" theme! To make something broken down is more of a finishing aspect. I like to make the room clean and then slowly break down pieces of the room to make it look worn out.

Sounds good. I can wait as I am in no rush to release this.

Might not be out of the question to create one or two new floor or wall textures though :)

Well if someone makes it, I will use it :D But I don't have the necessary talents to create them myself.

Would love to participate on this one and bring it to next level, but the spare time is the issue :-/. But I can look in to the light stuff if needed.

It's on hold for now. I am really busy and don't have too much motivation to begin a new project. I'll keep you guys updated if I do start.
