Can't Get out of Main Menu

Basically what happens is I launch the game, it asks me to do a one-time optimization. When I try to click on the yes option it's unresponsive. Nothing happens, which forces me to click on the no option. After doing so I am at the main menu and no matter which option I click it just goes to the menu but nothing happens.

That's what it looks like. I've tried uninstalling/restarting computer so I'm unsure what could be wrong. Thanks in advance guys!

What does your console say (press ` above tab). I'm guessing there is some sort of error in there. If so, create a techsupport zip and upload it somewhere. You can do this by running techsupport.exe, pretty straightforward. Probably a missing file or something, so try verifying your game cache first, if that doesn't fix it, then upload a tech support zip.

You need to reinstall your game. Or at the very least delete your Natural Selection 2/ns2/sound folder and then verify the game files. If that doesn't work then you need to reinstall. You are most likely missing files.

Same here, stuck on same page, will say PLAY /option / training what ever i select top right of corner and nothing else. console is accessible sound continues to play. have uninstalled 3 times and verified cache, then deleted sound folder then verified then re installed direct x, verified and have still got same issue.



edit also , I don't know if this is relevant but it displays a steam name I have not used since the I played the free weekend of this game about a year ago...

Do you have the following file in your Natural Selection 2 game data folder: Natural Selection 2/core/lua/SoundEffect.lua ?

Have you allready verified your Game Files? Do you have the following File: Natural Selection 2/core/lua/SoundEffect.lua ?

It would give a file not found or missing error if he/she didn't have it

I deleted the sound folder and verified it found the missing 20 something files and downloaded them again as usual....

it just wont work no matter what I do , only time verifying files has led to downloading is when i deleted files.. and still do not work


spent half the night trying to get this game to work, oh well at least 10% went to charity, ARRRGH!

That's not right, firstly, it would go in lua/menu/GUIMainMenu.lua, secondly, that's not where the cause of the problem is.

Error: PhysX: Foundation destruction failed due to pending module references. Close/release all depending modules first.
Is a bit odd though, that is not normal.
What happens if you join directly off someone on steam, so you bypass the menu?

What happens if you connect directly to a server?

I could be wrong, but I think changes were made to the way audio was handled, and it might have been compressed - if you delete the entire cache directory (%appdata/<username>/roaming/Natural Selection 2/Cache - I think, off the top of my head) and try restarting, it might start using the right data - if it doesn't work, you've lost nothing at this stage :-}

Right I was mostly asleep when I was writing on this thread last night so got confused.


I can use all the links on the right, can click the twitter feed link at bottom. however If i click an option in menu, I get this:

this started to load then dropped to home screen, typed RETRY in console, loaded for a second and dropped back to home, UI was broken as before.

Have you tried what phoenixbbs suggested? If that doesn't help could you pls post the Natural Selection 2/core/lua/SoundEffect.lua ?

ME using a cheapo 99pence dynamode USB sound card wouldn't conflict with the game like this would it?

hmm, I'm also using beta drivers from AMD (bf4 fps increase) SO will try and rollback and see how that works.

Yep i want to check that file, to get the folder phoenixbbs is talking about press win + r and type in "%appdata%/Natural Selection 2/" .

I checked ever detail, combined the infos you two gave and i have no clue where this error comes from. It doesn't even makes sense for me.

So i summon the mighty @ironhorse into this thread, maybe he has a idea whats going on.

Your last option i see atm is to nuke the hole thing (Make also sure you delete steam/userdata/<steamid>/4920 and disable Steam Cloud for NS2).

So go into ns2/lua in you install folder and delete SoundEffect.lua . Still the cleanest way is to do a full nuke.
