I had several new players playing their first ever round on a server last night. I told them "Stick with another marine, kill alien structures and shoot anything that moves." We also answered a few questions as play went on. As a result, a couple of them did surprisingly well. Just having them team up with another rine really helps them understand the game as they get to see the other rine buying, building, killing, defending etc and therefore get a feel for what is needed.
Yeah, the Humble Bundle store kind of came out of nowhere, we hadn't planned on following up the Halloween sale with another sale this early. We only found out about it a few days ago when they asked if we wanted to be part of the store, which of course we said yes to. But fresh blood for NS2 is always a good thing.
And don't forget about fast robo and sentry tactics. Had it yesterday.
New comms always tend to drop defensive turrets as soon as they can, its an RTS thing I suppose. One of the first things I do when someone I don't know goes comm is ask how they feel about turrets. Their answer helps me predict weather I can trust this person to do their own thing, or will they need some supervision. Generally sets the tone for the game.

Fresh blood IS a good thing, yes.

This is fun in a small 3v3 game or new alien teams that can't figure out how to handle turrets.
Super useful in veil - nano, skylights and topo since those are fairly easy for the alien teams to harass.
