How-to bind keys next to the enter key on German keyboard?

I play FPS games with the arrow keys and use the keys next to the return key for actions like jump, crouch, etc.

The NS2 bindings dialog under options allows me to bind the keys next to the return key (i.e.: ü+öä# on a German keyboard) and shows them as #47, #48, #51, #52, and #49 in the dialog. But for some unknown reason these key bindings do not work in game.

I found out that issuing "bind" on the console lists the allowed key names. Is NS2 really restricing the keys to this small subset?!

How do I get my key bindings to work?

Thanks in advance, greetings from Germany,
Jens

German keyboards tend to have problems with NS2 (like mine :D). For example, the ^ that shows up everytime i want to use the console to type.
