Dual Sensitivities (For Aliens & Marines)

I know this has been suggested more than a few times, but I really think that if this is a feasible endeavor, that it should be implemented into the game. I haven't really asked too many folks, but I would guess that most individuals find a higher sensitivity right for aliens as there are a lot more sharp turns involved than the marine smartly positioned down a hallway (or in the center of a room). With that I can say for a fact that my marine aim is not nearly as good as my alien aiming as it's fairly easy for me to overcompensate while tracking a wall jumping skulk coming at me. Feel free to disagree, but I believe it would help greatly with skill progression of newer players as well as seasoned veterans as they can more finely-tune their experience as an alien or a TSF Marine.

P.S. I know some mice support features like this, but I really like my current mouse (and it doesn't have said feature :( )

If you're marines or aliens, just open your console* and type, without quotes, "setsensitivity", and press enter. This will give you the numerical value of your current sensitivity. Then type "setsensitivity x", where "x" is the new value that you'd like to set. This will take a bit of experimentation on your part--just try to find values that are comfortable for you for each team.

Doing this at the start of every round might be a minor inconvenience, but I'm so used to doing it that it's really second nature; takes like, less than 2 seconds to do. Of course, these values will vary widely from player to player, not just because of preference, but because of other factors that influence sensitivity (DPI, etc.).

Like you said, most people prefer a higher sensitivity for aliens. So for instance, I always set my marine sensitivity to .85. When I play aliens, I set it to 1.3 (like I said, this will vary--my friend uses a value of 4 for marines, and it's basically the same feel as mine, from what I can tell when I spectate him). These are new values I've had to use post-Reinforced, as it seems to have messed with my in-game sensitivity. I used to use 1.7 for marines and 2.2 for aliens, but I'm used to the new values now (they're roughly equivalent to before, anyways).

    EDIT:
    * - if you didn't know, the '~' key opens your console.

At this point, not much will be implemented into the game sadly, we can only hope, but I doubt this will ever happen. Make a mod, well, you know how mods go... they don't or rarely get used.

It seems like it would be trivial to add separate sensitivities. Even FOV's. They already have separate FOV's and only would need to allow us to adjust them.

A good feature request. I have been asking this for a long time... However, there is a workaround: Console binds.

    In console, type, for instance:
    bind F6 setsensitivity 1
    bind F7 setsensitivity 3

Then you just hit the respective key when changing sides.

PS. I use mouse driver for sensitivity, as higher Y-axis sensitivity is a must for me. Tested this ingame though, works.

@Casan0vax & @Squirreli_ I thank you both for the workaround, I'll certainly use these for the time being-or from now on if it never happens.

I too would like to assume that, but my knowledge of NS2's code is also 'trivial'; so I suppose my opinion is moot. Perhaps someone more familiar wouldn't mind taking a peek?

For Quake 3 CPMA, I have a config file (called player.cfg) with my preferred settings all written out. When I load the game up, I simply open the console, type 'exec player.cfg' and it applies these settings.

I wonder, is it possible to do something similar with NS2? Make one set of settings for Aliens (lets call that one alien.cfg) and another one for Marines (called marine.cfg). This would allow different setups for each, that could be activated at the start of a match, assuming it is possible. I have no idea about such things though.
