Commander Artillery

Ok this idea is basically the Marnes and Aliens can launch an artillery strike at the cost of 'x' res. It does damage to every enemy and enemy building in the area.
The upgrade is called in from an artillery beacon (or something like a big ARC which cant move) which can be destroyed by the enemies. Also there should be a cooldown time of maybe 3 minutes so that you cant spam this ability. This gives the commander the ability to directly influence the battlefield instead of just constructing buildings and managing res. (or dropping medpacks etc)

Where does the beacon come from? Some random "observatory" somehow instantly translocates everyone. It makes no "sense" so I suppose this artillery thing needn't be so sensible.
However, I'm not in favour if the idea in its current form.
Having res attached to damage seems like a bad idea "I need 60 res so I can destroy that hive"
Kind-of microwaves, or radio-frequencies... plus it's in the future. Scan makes sense imo.
But this (commander doing dmg) is not needed.
You seem like you don't realise but the commander HAS The ability to directly influence the battlefield
True, but what I mean is the commander cannot do any direct damage to enemies.
And the shot doesnt come from regular ARCs, it comes from a 'super' ARC that cant move but has unlimited range.
Two words: Infantry Portal.
Get out of my house!
Hide yo Hives,
Hide yo Upgrades,
Hide yo Lifeforms,
Marines be blasting 'erething up in 'ere.
Well the obs and the beacon was the closest thing to what the OP said as he used the word "beacon". I was merely saying that one cannot use the argument, "so what is it done by" without also noting that this suspension of belief occurs in another area...
Same to you @RedSword
Where are medpacks coming from?
I don't think an artillery strike is a good idea, but gameplay decisions should always be made based on gameplay, not realism.
"WTF is killing me... oh wait random artillery from the guy in the chair..."
I don't want to fight super turrets, AOE effects that come from a tough structure or from the magic ceiling. At least with grenades you can take care of the source, up close and personal in a swift biteyclawy fashion
THE NANOGRID DAMMIT :P
Or just enable nuke research, the last living marien can trigger self destruct, T
Medpacks appearing out of thin air... my mind immediately went to that weird scene in willy wonka. Hell why doesn't everything marine just materialize from nothing, they clearly have the technology.
I'm guessing this man is behind the marine capabilities...
