Natural selection ai

<div class="IPBDescription">Yes, i am new...</div>I can't figure out from the docs, but in the video of the gameplay it looks like some marines are computer controlled. Are they? The reason I ask is because I will only have the ability to play 2-player over LAN. Can you play NS with so few players and it still be fun? Is anyone making a bot for NS? <!--emo&???--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'><!--endemo--> Maybe there should be some AI in a later version.

First off, welcome to the forums, please be sure to read the FAQs and check out readyroom.org for all your NS info. <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

The bot concept was brought up earlier, coding the bots would be a little tough, however, and probably will not be in the first beta versions. Enough people have expressed the desire for one, so rest assured someone will be making some bots... even if I have to 'poorly' code them myself. (I don't see why the BOC bot couldn't work, modified, naturally).

Thanks! Do you think one-on-one would be any fun, or is it even possible?

I would love to see the NS team hook up some help from some pro bot programmers to throw into a future version. It would be GREAT to actually have bots built into the mod rather then surfing for hours trying to find one. And a good one at that.

    no kidding Molec?
Anyway...welcome to these forums,I don't think it would be fun playing NS 1on1 (who will be commander?)Maybe with future releases when marines vs marines or aliens vs aliens will be included.

ya, and 1on1 the marine would probably be outclassed anyway.

Thanks guys! I guess I'll have to play it with my 28k connection. Doesn't the docs say you need a 56k connection? All well, that's what all the games say. <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->

    Welcome, Someone.

The idea of using bots for head to head play (or even for allowing a bot commander) is cool indeed.  It's a ton of work, but not outside our abilities.  NS currently has very mediocre bot support as it is (based off <a href="http://www.planethalflife.com/botman" target="_blank">Botman's HPB bot code</a>) and we may very well have official bot support in the near future.  It most likely won't be in the first version however.
