Suggestions for Comunications

Hi,
I've been playing NS2 for about 4 days now, so I'm definitely still a rookie. However, with that said, I've really enjoyed the game and there are a few simple changes which I think would really improve the 'team playing' side of the game:
Open Mic for Nearby Players
There should be the option to have your microphone on all the time for nearby players (within a radius of around 30 to 50m). The closer the player, the louder they are and they should have an icon above their head to indicate that they're speaking. If you want to speak to your entire team, then you can still press Left Alt.
This would be particularly helpful when you're pushing into an infested area and get ambushed; you don't really have time to press Left Alt to warn your team mates. When things get hectic, your entire team also doesn't need to hear your frantic screams (especially if your commander is trying to send people to your aid).
Commander's Mic takes Precedence
Whenever the Commander speaks, nearby players and other team players should have the volume of their mic reduced. This is particularly helpful in the scenario above.
Squad Mics
I've seen a couple of topics before suggesting squads (it used to be in NS1). Instead of giving boosts to players in squads, I suggest having open mic for squad members along with highlighting them green on the minimap. An indicator on the screen somewhere to show the relative position of your squad members would be handy too.
This would make ambushing more effective for aliens, and teamwork easier in general.
More control of Comm types
There should be the option to control the volume for each type of communication (nearby players, squad members, commanders etc). A nice added feature would be the ability to define which ear you hear certain communications in, e.g. hear your squad members in your left ear and your commander in your right ear.
Cheers,
