The Best Commander Strategy

no flaming.
Ok because of all the flaming in most other commander topics, im here to tell you MY PERSONAL strategy, if you dont like it dont bother posting a flame.

When you start off, build 1, yes one infantry portal in a corner. Get your marines to build it then get them to hide in corners by the door so when the innevitable skulk rush comes you can defeat it. Now make a turret factory in another corner and put turrets on each side of the factory, 1 at CC and scatter some around the base ( some means about 3. ) By time this is done your be pretty low on resources, build a armory and thats this base sorted. If you want you can make another infantry portal, but it is not needed.

Ok now you will probably have 0 resources, keep a marine at the base to defend for a bit and then send the rest of your team to the closest resource tower, take it overthen get a turret factory close to it in a corner or well hidden, build only 3 turrets. This should slow them down on the way to your base, killing them or defending the node, if they get past they should be killed by the marine and turrets at the base.

By now your team should be heading to the nearest hive. There are 2 things that can happen now.

1) You find the aliens only hive, you get some marines to cover people from the skulks spawning there, and some marines to take it out. Once its dead search around for the remaining Khaaraa and youve won, if theyve managed to get a hive which is HIGHLY UNLIKELY go take that out in the same way.

2) It is not the alien hive, you make a turret factory and get about 4 turrets guarding each side of the turret factory and the doorways. Move on to the next hive and if this is their hive do number 1). If not make a turret factory get some turrets and move on.

You should reach there last hive by now if you havent allready won. Either put a siege cannons outside the hive our go in and get ready for a big fight since by now they would have made offence chambers and got alot of skulks defending. so i suggest you make siege cannons in this rare case.

Games if over, you get congratulated.

over simplified... but not necessarily bad. would not go as fast as you suggest if the aliens know what they're doing.

Ahh, but you see you can modify it abit if you want, but this plan really does allways work for me, i honestly have only lost once as commander!
    Try it, your like it.

Not that great. Too much money spent on turrets. Hive securing does not happen soon enough.

It may be slow, but its a almost certain win.

That strat would require some decent marines who know what you are trying to do and are willing to try and make it happen. The marines I get when commanding are like frightened puppies afraid to leave their territory

Good point Wing. I like your strat Silent. I don't think I would use it myself....seems a bit to agressive...as said it would need a very competent team to pull it off correctly. I usually spend the first 5 minutes of the game moving all my marines out of the spawn in two or three directions and securing half to 3/4 of the map...I get RP's very quickly and it enambles me to get a feel for where the aliens are going to attack from and what they seem to want to take...easier if nothing else in that it then distracts them for a bit.

I do like it though, an excellent early rush tactic.

Depending on the map, if the resource nodes are far away from my base, I build an armory. While the marines are on their way to the nodes, you'll be gathering resources and should have enough for a tower by the time you get to a node.

If the nodes are close, I don't build an armory in my main base and just shower them with ammo as they need it.

I usually try and grab 2 nodes, and leave them undefended. My greasemonkey back at base should start building up an Observatory, then I scanner sweep the hives and send my resource node troops to the closest empty one. I set up a secondary base in there, with an armory, factory, phase gates, and (later on) a CC. Once I've got the Hive secured, I build an armory and arms lab in main and start the teching.

You do know its cheaper to make an armory then to shower ammo??

Not if you give them less than 12 ammo packs. I guess "shower" was the wrong word. I mean giving ammo as they need it.

    12 ammo packs = 24
    1 armory = 25

... well, strictly speaking, it's always cheaper with an armory ... but at the start, you loose time - waiting to get enough resources, waiting for it to build, waiting for the marines to load up. So its not cheaper. Just faster. Which may well be more important.
