Looking at what other game companies do to continue to keep the community active, and also given the limited resources of UWE to create aesthetic customisability, I had an idea.
What if in each new build UWE conducts an approval process to make marine / alien skins created in the modding community official to the game. This would accomplish several things:
- Remove the need to activate custom mods in the game
- Create a more colourful gaming environment with a wider range of choices for rookies and casual gamers
- Encourage/reward the community to be more active in modding
This would require some sort of guidelines around what models would be acceptable, i.e colour palette; style; truth to the mythos etc.
Thoughts?

Just UWE guidelines to go by, and one employee white listing periodically.
This wouldn't force any other client to download any other person's model, either. Just client side.
