It would help if you could provide some more information such as your log.txt and basic things like your processor, graphics card, ram, etc. or even just a dxdiag.
Information on how to get a dxdiag should be a simple google, and the log file is found within your user folder/appdata/natural selection 2 directory.
If you can't find appdata you may need to enable viewing of hidden files in the control panel in appearance and personalization.
Also it is worth noting that bad times can be caused by:
Forcing FSAA in your video driver
Running in game overlays: mumble, and a gigabyte system monitor overlay have been particularly bad about it. so just shut them all down.
Keep in mind that other magical gremlins are possibly at work and it is hard to track them down without the two things that @RoflcopterV22 is asking for.

LOOOL! You guys, I solved this ages ago ahaha.
Wow.
Oh well, killyouslow, it's always helpful if you post your basic computer specs (cpu model, gpu model, ram amount).
This problem is often caused by real anti aliasing being forced in the graphics card control panel.
This type of anti aliasing is multi sampling or super sampling. Anyway, go into your graphics card control panel and change the option to "let application decide".
Ensure your anti aliasing options for your video card are set to application determined/controlled, typically through your ati or nvidia control panel.
If that doesn't do it Then try to manually unsubscribe from any mods in the steam workshop, through steam.
Manually delete the "workshop" folder found in your hidden appdata/roaming /natural selection 2/ folder.
If that doesn't do it then manually delete every single file relating to ns2, both in your install directory and that appdata folder. Once you visually confirm there is nothing left, right click on ns2 in steam and verify integrity of cache. (don't use steam to uninstall)
I have something similar going on. Usually when I load the game with the descent background, the space shuttle and the effect of "bringing everything on to the GUI" (like the transition effect) chokes, studders, hiccups, hangs, etc for a second or so and then kinda catches up to itself. Well now it just stays choke/hiccup and selecting anything doesnt bring up the window it suppose to, but instead it just shows the background. I can hear myself scrolling over servers and the console doesnt show itself however I can use commands (ie: quit works). Another weird thing is if you alt-tab out and back in, any button you click will just alt tab you back out. An odd work around I found out is if you select options first (without alt tabbing) then option menu will work properly and then hitting esc will do the "refresh animation" and everything works as it should. I have the latest nVidia drivers installed (326.19),

could be an issue with the drivers in your case @ayos (sounds like a different bug if the above steps did not fix it for you)
i recommend rolling them back 2 whql versions. (before 320)

Tech support is community provided and volunteered around here btw so sometimes it can take longer.
Glad you fixed it though, just wish you confirmed which fix exactly. (guessing AA)

I don't know what nvidia calls their menu items.
Also a screenshot of the issue is always nice.
Hope we can help.
1,5 GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 660
