Hi all,

This game has always given me problems on my previous system. I used to have an i7 920 @ 2.7ghz and a gtx 260, but recently upgraded to a SSD + i7 4770k (3.5ghz) + 16gb ddr3 1600mhz ram + GTX 660TI, and I STILL get about 20 fps whenever I play this game.

I have re-installed the game several times. I have also updated my video drivers to the newest stable release.

When I google FPS issues in this game, all of the posts I find are by people who are either using laptops or have a desktop with much lower specs.

Can anyone give me any advice?

Cheers!

EDIT: Problem solved. I hadn't defragmented my hdd after installing the OS, antivirus, and other software. After running a defrag everything started performing much better.

Well could be several reasons. First thing to check is in game type r_stats 1 and look for where it says waiting for GPU or waiting for render thread. If it's waiting on GPU then your graphics card is over taxed, this is the most likely case since a 660ti isn't really a 'good' graphics card by most gaming standards. As a general rule if you can buy it from best buy or walmart it's probably not worth it. If the game says it's waiting on the render thread that's waiting on the CPU. For that you can overclock your CPU fairly easily depending on the motherboard. Should be entirely possible to get it to 4Ghz or higher on stock cooling alone. Also try the usual stuff like closing all unused programs and what not. Hope that helps.

Davil, I appreciate that you took the time to reply to my thread, but a 660ti is a damn good gaming card. It costs around 300$ on newegg. I shouldn't have even had to spend that much on a card to play this game.

And I certainly shouldn't have to overclock my CPU just to play this one game.

I'll go get my r_stats and report back, but please don't tell me my system is sub-par, because it clearly isn't.

I tried playing this game immediately after installing windows updates and getting my basic image setup the way I wanted (antivirus, tools, browsers, and games all installed). I forgot to do the obvious thing and defragment my hard drive after giving it such a thorough flogging. It seems to be working much better now that I defragmented.

Mods, please feel free to lock this thread.

If its a new install, make sure to update your GPU driver before trying NS2.

I have re-installed the game several times. I have also updated my video drivers to the newest stable release.

Sigh. Kind of disappointed with the community on this one. I got one reply saying that my brand new system that cost me over a grand isn't powerful enough, and another response from someone who obviously didn't read my full post.

I appreciate the attempt at help, but neither of you were any help.

EDIT: Also, let me re-iterate that my problem is solved, and I'm waiting for a mod to lock this thread.

Its sound like you had the stock drivers that windows installed, over the nvidia drivers, glad you were able fix your issue. It's one of the downsides of a open platform there are so many configurations to account for.
