I've had enough "balance". Can we have our old unbalanced NS2 game back.

Yeah, I liked our old horribly broken and unbalance game with that old horribly broken docking map. Can we have that back? World peace would be nice too. I bet we see world peace first though, but that's okay. Both would be awesome. Thanks!

I think he means waaaay back in the older versions, before beta was almost ready for release.

Natural Selection has evolved, it's time to adapt :)

by that token, the 250 should have been placed in the wild, to see if it could directly compete with 249 is fitness/popularity. same could be said of docking. I believe what we have here has more of a fascist flavor to it. like it, because we're not giving you the option to like anything else.

I take comfort in the fact that NS2 is still pretty much unplayable for me in the very late game. Nothing like your fps dipping below 30 to remind you that some things never change. You may change how you look NS2, but you can't change what you are inside!

Im impressed the normal raging fan boi's have not come in full force yet, but yes I agree with OP but until anything like that happens this game will stay uninstalled

Just join one of those 249 version mods. I for one never had more fun with ns2 than with 250. But you are free to play the version you want, isnt that great?

I actually think world peace would be quite awful.

    Hi guys,

Just a thought, but perhaps the OP was being sarcastic?

    Hi guys,

Just a thought, but perhaps the OP was being sarcastic?

Seeing as how he was already complaining on the docking changes, I'm guessing he wasn't joking.

ZMhub or ZM for short has both the old docking map, AND 249 build without biomass and all upgrades within the hive not scattered around the structures while the only thing the hive can build is a driftor lol

I agree. We all played balance test mod when it was available and guess what? People DIDN'T start playing it all the time. They went back to the regular servers. I wonder why people didn't swamp the BTM servers if it was better? They should have left it BTM mod.

In the month prior it was pretty common to see plenty of full / occupied bt servers.

The chance to shape your game exists now, just like it did then, by participating through detailed feedback - not by vague or silent protest.

And the means to compete equally already exists with a mod. Let's see which prevails, shall we? :!!

The only time I saw people start playing BT was when we all found out that it would be the next release. Other than that those BT mod servers were never touched.

Oh, so you mean by March, then, three months ago?

Yeah that sounds about right ;-)

Nope, from this post 13 days ago: http://unknownworlds.com/ns2/build-250-under-construction/

BT mod servers were populating server lists and busy collecting feedback quite longer than 13 days ago..

    Not down under we didn't.

I have been far from silent on the areas that I saw as being problematic either in the BT or in gameplay in general.
Sure I have not posted much since 250...partly because I have not been able to convince myself play (I predominantly like to play aliens...sadly there is little joy in doing that now).
That marines can turtle 1 tech point and basically get full tech was crap in the beta, crap in the BT mod and is crap in 250.
That alien gameplay is anything but enjoyable seems to be ignored as apparently its more balanced at comp level (well sorry I dont have the time or inclination to invest more time than i have already).

The nerfs to alien expansion are pointless, marines can build on infestaion, dont need more than 1 tech point and basically dont care if aliens take most of the map.

We had the same issues back in the beta...it was part of the reason why 2nd chair was needed for JP's and exo's.
Marine turtles happen not only because aliens struggle to actually take a defended base but because even when your losing its fun as marines to shoot aliens.
As such recycling a base or surrendering is often the last thing ppl want to do as holding out is so much fun.
The inverse is far from true as aliens...you cant turtle 1 hive in teh same way...and the base spawning lifeform does not even compare to being as enjoyable to play in similar situations.

Sadly I dont think that the casual player base is really be considered in any of these changes...if it was then alien gameplay would be more enoyable...stuff both sides having an equal chance of winning...make both sides fun to play first and foremost.

I saw more combat servers running than bt. would hop in when I could, but it was usually either full or empty. predominantly empty though. if a mod is legitimately competitive, there is going to be a tangible presence. and it didn't seem that way for bt.

@hakenspit you definitely gave feedback, thank you for that. :)

@amoral there is a steam group that was announced in the BT thread, that was used to organize games through announcements etc. We PTs tested it ~3 days out of the week for most of the prior month, often seeding public servers. :)

I agree things could have been a bit more advertised, however.. i think there was an in game mention of it prior to that "under construction" post, but not 100% sure..

I don't think the level of aversion to change could have been predicted.. i think the main concern was sample size and feedback to ensure a more fun and balanced game with added depth...
The BT mod definitely got tested enough, (its still not perfect, of course, but man this feels so much better) But perhaps what should have accompanied that testing was more of an effort to have an "outreach" to the community to poll whether they would be okay with such a large amount of change. idk..

On the other hand, true to the game's name, it has never stopped evolving from it's inception to today. Every patch brought a new game, in alpha or beta.. and i think this is because of the "ripple" that can occur from a game with such a large number of influences and intertwined factors. In other words : a game with depth will often become a new game, if it is to be changed, even through improvements. This game, thanks to the developers and community, are all about constantly improving it, so expect an ever changing game perhaps.. i know i'm used to it (and appreciative of it) after 3 years 8->
