<div class="IPBDescription">A strategy not an idea.</div> I like to play a form of alien commander/look out. This involves being a skulk preferiably with celerity and cloaking and then playing like your counting cards. What you do is the standard running around killing marines but with more of a observant attitude. You should be constantly patrolling the width of the map and mostly the middle areas. The key here is actually not sight. The key is hearing. Marines are loud. They stomp around and they are even louder when they build. Many times the sounds can be heard from areas that would take you 35 seconds to get to if you were to walk there so hearing is much better. This is where it becomes really tricky. You have to try to keep track of where every marine is at all times. This is obviously easy with smaller games but there are usually 6-7 marines and I can still pull it off. Anyways, figure out who the commander is by 1. Asking the marines since they usually answer. or 2. figure out who hasn't killed or died in a long time. Then during your patrols count the number and direction of footsteps and other sounds. Usually you just have to keep track of one main group and 1 or 2 solo idiots that try sneaking around. Voice comm the location to your team and then if the sound is of something critical (like a turret fact being set up) go help out. If you die check on what all of your teammates are doing during spectate mode since you can get 6 peoples perspectives in less than 10 seconds.
I really like this strategy because so many people just fight over one area or are too concentrated building a base to notice. Some people just don't talk. I've had teammates just choose not to tell us of a marine invasion or that one of our hives is being taken over. That really annoys me so I usually end up doing this. I aso try to take on a more commanderish role by telling the gorges where to build. I don't do this because I'm bossy, I do it because the playstyle I usually play is one in which I almost always know what is going on. They say aliens are more towards individuality but come on, is it better to have a gorge build defense in his own little hive or a crucial area that will be attacked soon? I get a lot of sarcastic "yes master" or "Yes Commander Lap." but when people actually listen we win. This is the same problem the marine commander has when he troops think they know whats best when they don't know the big picture. It's not so bad for me though since I am well known on the server I play on and my score speaks for itself. But really, as long as your not a lamer most aliens are smart enough to know that they should listen to teammates. I can't tell you how many hives have been taken because the teammates ask questions when someone says "GET TO CARGO BAY NOW! UNDER ATTACK!" Don't ask, just go (obviously there are situations where you shouldn't but for the most part most aliens are just killing people anyways). So listen to your teammates and respond to all alerts! Time is crucial and that 5 seconds you take thinking about whether to respond to the distress call may determine if marines get turrets up.
Overall the idea of an alien commander is hard to do but rewarding when done right.
