Random framerate drops

I've been playing this game regularly for months and haven't had any issue with framerate. I play on a 560gt with an i7 processor. I've been able to run the game smoothly with 60fps for all of the time I've been playing. Recently however, my framerate has begun to randomly drop, going down to 30 and even 20 fps for a very short isolated period of time. This is obviously a significant problem and it's hurt my performance in combat, particularly in scrims 
Is this an issue that is associated with any of the newer patches? It was my understanding that those were implemented to improve balance, although perhaps they have had an adverse affect on me. Or could it be a result of the summer causing my gpu to overheat and slow things down?
Ultimately the solution will have to be upgrading my graphics card, but for the time being is there anything I can do to boost performance and avoid these awful drops?
