Two ideas I've had since playing NS1 but never suggested

1_ Mil-Spec Camo
tl;dr - functions precisely the same as NanoShield for TSF - commander selects building/marine, hits button - timer ticks down. During timer, said Camo'd thing is 90% invisible at best, giving tactical opportunities that didn't exist before and could possibly allow for sneaky stuff or to break out of an impossible situation. Timer time and level of visibility would ofc be balanced to fit in with what would work well within the universe and for gameplay.
2_ Alien Pitcher Plant
Google/wiki a Pitcher Plant. Make it 7 feet tall. Apply to NS2; "devour" gets reintroduced.
Marine walks past and either doesnt spot (could be placed on ceiling? by gorge? or commander-only? dunno) it or its camo'd. Gets too close (close=75-80% whip range) and gets pulled into a large static plant. This thing would VEEEERY slowly eat through armour, but be super-fast at dissolving unarmoured, squishy humans. Marines can axe/weld their way out but it'd take a while (L0 armour=dead supa quick, gotta get him out asap. L1=GTFO within 1min etc) and during this time that marine is tactically removed from the battlefield, causing disturbance and fluctuations with the marine activities. It'd be like whips & hydras -- not a real huge useful thing in itself, but if used correctly it can change the flow of a game entirely!
That's only taken me 8 years to suggest to UWE
