Anti-skulk Rush...

<div class="IPBDescription">Note to comms:</div> Most commanders say, its not my fault we died from a skulk rush, there was nothing I could do!

WRONG, I command a lot, and its very easy to prevent a skulk rush, keep moving the command view around looking for the commander motion tracking blips (you can see these blips if they are close enuf to your buildings) When you find where they are comming from, WARN THE TEAM!!! Its very easy to tell your marines 'they're comming in from the vent, right now, heads up.

    WRONG, unless you build a building outside the base you wont see the blip there for you wont know there coming, the only way to tell is move around just outside the entrances to base then when you hear the skulks footsteps warn the team.

    you can see the 'blips' thru the walls SBV X.x go check out bast, you can see them in the vents and other areas right outside the base, and you can hear the walking around in commander mode as you said. oh, also forgot to say, it realy only works with voicecomm, scince it is such a small range.

    WRONG (couldn't resist), the best way to prevent a skulk rush is to turret your tf and cc properly. Unless your team is totally dicking around for the first minute or so, you should have enough time to get turrets up and secure your base from skulks.

    While there are slow rushes these are due to the fact that the aliens started out in the "far" Hive. In my experience, I've been hit in less than a minute by Skulk rushes. The best defense is to have most of your team watching the entrances while one or two Marines build your basic buildings. The builder Marines will most likely pause building during the Skulk rush and turn to fire, assisting those who have already opened up. It works extremely well if the Marines can cover their entrances.

    Yea, you need to have some marines stay at base to build/defend the builders. But it doesn't take very long to set up turrets with even just a few people at base. Anyway, for the most part, skulk rushes come in 2's and 3's, not the whole alien team, and with a few people at base setting up, that shouldn't be a problem, most of the time.

    actually, I've been rushed so many times before my turrets can be built. One reason is because of the hesistation in the beginning about who comms. Anyways the commander CAN help. He has to place all the buildings - fact and then turrets, and then he leaves the COM chair and joins the rest of the team in the lobby to repel rush. If turrets are completed and no rush, then he goes back into the CC. This can help if you've been rushed before and know its gonna happen again. 1 marine can make a difference.

    Oh BTW sometimes when I go back into the CC, my menus pop down and immediately pop up so I can't do anything. I have to leave the CC for the 2nd time and re-enter it and then the problem is fixed. Is that a bug that anyone has experienced too?

    I've heard Mines are a good deterent at the start too. and cheaper/faster then a turret.

    I'm not sure if mines would do very mutch against skulks. They can avoid them pretty easily by climbing on walls or jumping. And besides the skulks run fast enough that they can escape the explosion.

    2 mines will stop a skulk dead. In Bast, these are invaluable. Boost someone into the vent, drop 3 mines in here, then put 2 mines on each of the tops of the ladders. Congratulations, for 16 RP's, you voided a skulk rush for roughly 4 minutes of the game.

    Go set up a forward base at a hive somewhere.
