Steam won't sync NS2 to cloud and can't play

There seems to be some form of problem with my steam syncing right now which I would have thought be an unrelated issue to playing Natural Selection 2 has I don't really have any local content that needs syncing, but it seems that this means I'm unable to authenticate on servers and play the game, which is now really frustrating. Is there a way to play when the steam community is unavailable or a plan to fix this in the future?

EDIT: i just kept restarting steam/ns2 and eventually it started working again.

Its happen to me last night , but turn out that is Steam Maintance Server , on their twitter Steam Support

back to normal today , play fine

Wait 30 min and try again. Happens when the steam servers go down for maintenance.
