For anyone who remembers MOO:2 and other quality 4x genre games it seems that after almost 2 decades we will finally have a spiritual successor

Reposting here because apparently a couple of the StarDrive regulars are also die hard NS fans

Oh I should probably link the steam page too:

Ah, well, Star Drive. Yes. I was briefly torn between this and Endless Space. Decided that I will go for Endless Space once they've integrated espionage.

:ooo I love MoO2. I even have it installed on my android device using Doxbox - couldn't resist playing it again. ^^ I'll definitely check this one out.

So is anyone enjoying this? I played it a bit but... well it's very clunky.

I'm not sure what exactly it's got that's it's really good at. Seems a lot like civ 5 but without the awesome terrain features and interface that make that game easy to play but add emergent depth. Or maybe sins of a solar empire but with worse controls and no node system to funnel combat together, less structure.

The ship design system isn't really... good enough to make it a selling point. It's in depth yeah but it seems suited for a smaller-scale game. The economy is fairly standard, so far as I can tell, the ground combat honestly detracts from the game for me, and the whole interface is just not that well designed for a game of this complexity.

It's like if sword of the stars 2 didn't have the really cool combat engine, basically.

I guess it might be more fun if I play it doggedly enough to acclimatise to it but I'm having difficulty justifying doing that. Just seems like it's not really very good at anything, even games I don't really like I can at least say are unique but if anything this seems like a graphical upgrade of star ruler, with all of that game's problems.
