Walljump Map?

Are there any walljump maps out there? I want to train the technique, the mouse movement and such and i find the normal NS2 maps don't really have a good area for it. Something like a blank-textured map, boxy rooms with intersecting tunnels / doorways etc, for training purposes.

Cheers

that video is old and was before the skulk movement nerfs....no real point to a walljump map any more.

There is still plenty of reason to wall jump o.o You still get noticably faster speeds you just accell to that speed slower than before. You can still maintain that high speed and the technique is absolutely still valid.

I totally agree. Im practicing at walljumping 99% of time playing by skulk.

try create your own server, write in console:
    cheats 1
    debugspeed
    and try walljumping

You can use the back wall of cargo in veil if you really want a bland practice spot but I would suggest just loading up a map on your own and practicing by running around the map walljumping as much as possible. I think you really need to practice in a real game situation becuase you will never be walljumping on really easy flat surfaces in a real game.

Tram and Summit both have tons of great walljumping available.

Thanks for the link and tips guys. I can't get the jumping as in the video i posted, so i guess the mechanics have changed indeed. However, i found another video that is based on a more recent build.
The walljump map is very good, thanks!

Statik, i hear you man, i also practice in the vanilla maps :)

What i'm not sure about yet, in the current build, is it better to jump slightly downwards off the the wall to the ground, or is it better to jump slightly upwards from the wall?

I find the best thing is to start with a bit of height to get you that initial boost, then try to time the walljump at the peak height from your floor jump, and just clip the wall - like hitting the apex of a turn. I *think* I tend to keep the crosshair around level (ie not trying to jump up or down specifically), but I can't say for sure whether I actually achieve this.

I don't think cross hair movement gives any bonus speed like in the quake/gldsrc engine. Just aim in the right direction when you jump off the wall and success.

I feel the same. You only need to move parallel to the wall and hit jump at the right time. Since a couple of patches ago, you lose speed by changing direction anyway I believe.

Ah this clears it up a lot. I played years of quake trickjumping so instinctively in NS2 i tried to find the best curve. I was pressing strafe and doing circle jumps in NS2 to no avail! Hehe.

    Thanks

it doesn't, but I find doing it helps with dodging regardless and makes me harder to hit.

Yes, if you turn too much too quickly your speed plummets which makes any speed gained more than lost.

Before 240 I'd have agreed with you, but with the spastic animation fixes and acceleration nerfs I don't think moving the mouse around quickly makes you harder to hit, I feel it makes you sit in more or less the same spot as you accelerate quite slowly, just turning around in circles.

I have +forward pressed all the time, except the first jump.
But now i'm wondering, should i only press jump everytime i jump off a wall?

Try jumping toward a wall before wall jumping. You'll move farther than if you just wall jump from ground level. After the wall jump, jump off the ground in order to keep some of your speed. That is unless there is a nearby object that you can wall jump off of immediately. To break it down for you, what I like to do is:

    1) Jump toward a wall.
    2) Wall jump.
3a) Jump upon hitting the ground in order to keep some speed.
3b) Or wall jump off a nearby object immediately.
    4) Repeat.

I remember reading somewhere that jumping often causes you to lose considerable momentum - I'm not sure if this still applies. Staying on the ground for any length of time after a wall jump makes you lose all of your momentum, though, so I try to stay off of the ground for as long as possible. This is why I tend to jump a lot (see 3a).

Ok. This is clear but do you keep Forward pressed all the time?

Yes, I do. Some more tips: If you set a high FOV, you can wall jump before it seems that you actually touch the wall. A high FOV tends to elongate everything away from you. This applies to attacking marines/structures as well for any lifeform. Try to remember this distance - it's pretty important.
