Crag/Shift/Shade Hive needed?

i was thinking,
the alien techtree doesnt need to be so splintered, there allready is a limitation to the traits a lifeform can evolve, which is the number of hives.
the aditional limitation that you can not have carpace and regen at the same time can stay in effect.

a relative res cost increase for upgrade research and crag/shade/shift placement would be all that is needed.

i think it is cleaner, more versatile and would represent the highly adaptable khaara much better.

if theres enough response, i might make a mod out of it.

The key is that you need map control as alien team to get to your full potential. And as a result, the marines can deny you that potential by not letting you get that map control. Getting rid of the need to expand would just drag out to unnecessary long turtles on the alien side.

Or giving the more limited alien team a bit more versatility could provide more options for a comeback.

Being able to research Carapace, Adrenaline and Silence on the one Hive would be much too overpowered. I could see myself taking that route before considering 2nd Hive upgrades every time if it was implemented.

Like it's been said, map control is important to the Aliens, and that's why you need an additional Hive to get additional evolutions. It also requires different tactics depending on the game - Do I have someone go Gorge so as to build the second Hive quicker and be an offensive player down, or do I build it slow?

The second hive still provides map control, free spawns, and the very important leap and bile bomb. All of which would be more important than a double or triple cost upgrade, plus the suggestion means that a second hive would be required to pick 2 upgrades at once.

yes, thats the point, even if you resarch all the evolutions, every lifeform can only have 1 of them on 1 hive, so the aliens dont get stronger, just more versatile... which might actualy make them a little weaker...
