I think that close spawns put too much importance on taking the central rooms (which cut off the map for the other team) and lead to too many non-fun rushes. The worst are Drone Bay + Monorail spawns on Descent and Summit is also quite bad.
Okay, thanks for the info. At least, playing on ENSL gathers (ie on those servers) does have this no-close-spawns mod active, so that part of my comment still stands
as in all rts games, that's what scouting is for. central position is typically OP regardless, especially if it has res. put a phase or shift in central, and you're pretty much one room away from every rt on the map.

Actually, you need the close spawns mod to achieve this. The nsl_versions don't have fixed spawns themselves.
