Trying to make a map.

So, I'm attempting to make a map for ns2. But whenever I go to the launch pad then the editor I just get a black screen with a yellow arrow pointing up and a red arrow pointing left in the lower left corner. When I try and use any tool that would usally make a line on the screen the line will only appear at the arrows any help?

Is is completely black or grey? Sometimes when I load the editor it is almost impossible to focus on what I just made. Try pressing alt+w and it will bring up a 4 corners perspective. You can then drop a prop or entity using the top view and then select it and refocus on the perspective window. If the screen is completely black then I have no clue.

And Yes randomrope the screen is all black except for the icons on top, bottom and the arrows.

It certainly Sounds like something isn't right! they're a friendly, knowing bunch on the mapping forums so you're in the right place.
A screen cap of the 'black' screen might give some clues. also make sure you're not running any other games or software that uses direct x, get the latest display drivers for your graphics card and verify the integrity of the ns2 game cache through steam.
