Well I dunno if anyone else was doing something for it but the 7 day roguelike challenge has come to a close and despite starting 1 day late and my PC CONSUMING half the project in the 2nd last day, I've added my own silly lil' attempt: Nya Quest

In hindsight, making stuff with tools you're not familiar with and trying to use concepts you've never explored before is haaaaard. I wasted a day or two on trying to get a working field of view (so stuff you can't see is dark) and ended up having to dump it just so i'd actually get the game finished XD
I'd love to have had time to do real art for it, or include sound, or animate it or a whole lot of other things, but hey I guess this is my first ever publicly released 'indie' game (snark farmer doesn't really count :P )
Did anyone else submit anything to the 7DRL challenge?

Shame, there's a lot of interesting entries in this year's competition and I figured with all the talented folk in our community there'd be more than just me in there
Is that from scratch? libraries? tools?
I am always intrigued by the thing everyone else uses
Looks interesting. May have to mess with one for next year. Although my "7 days" might have to be 3.5 weekends instead, since family >programming
Given the full 7 days I'd have probably put something in to help you learn the controls as you play
As for what i made it in, I've got Game Maker Studio (of hotline miami and spelunky fame) on steam but for the Roguelike comps you can use pretty much anything. I made the project completely from scratch as I've never done anything roguelike before nor anything of merit in game maker before but again I believe the rules are that you can salvage anything you like as long as the end result is new XD
I hadn't heard of the competition myself before until a friend of mine mentioned it as he's making one too (he ended up ducking out to work on it longer. You can see his here and it's pretty good: http://distractionware.com/blog/2013/03/seven-day-roguelike-last-day/ )
As far as I can tell though, this 7 day roguelike competiton's been running for a good few years now so I don't see any reason there won't be a 2014 one to join in on and having gone through the process myself I highly recommend it when the time comes
I might have to have a stab at the whole ludum dare thing now that you mention it, confused
If anyone's wondering about the video review racer mentioned:
