Door welding still planned?

I remember reading about it in some interview, or review. The ability to use the marine welder to shut some door more permanently. It sounds intriguing, an ability to deny the enemy access to an area, or limit the avenues of approach.

However, I can hardly imagine an implementation that will not bring some tedium to the game. If the door is welded, how are the aliens gonna open it? By attacking it? And if so, will the marines be able to repair the damage simultaneously?

The problem with welding/attacking a door, unlike welding/attacking a power node or other structures lie in the fact that the enemies are divided by the door and cannot attack each other, and cannot effectively deny the access to the other team. It works well for other structures and power nodes - first, you have to secure the area, then invest some time into building. But the idea of a group of marines welding from one side, and the aliens bashing from the other side does not sound very exciting.

It was planned, that onos can crush welded doors. You would not be able to "repair" the door while the onos is attacking it. If you tried, you would weld the door open again. I don't know if repairing doors after they got destroyed by the onos was planned.

Anyway, it would change the battlefield in the course of the round and help marines against the often debated ability of skulks to sneak up on RTs behind the front lines. I really hope it gets implemented.

But there are also down sides. While aliens can use vents, marines would probably end up crippling them selfs with welding doors shut. (This all depends on the placing of them by the mapper.) Maybe simultaneously to welding doors, weldable vents should be introduced. In any case, the mappers need to place them with balance in mind. And sure many existing doors need to be replaced / removed.

Overall I hope we will get this feature with the next content patch. It really belongs to NS.

Weldable wents? How would onos open those?

I believe your explanation makes sense - opening welded doors requires having an ono, which is reasonable difficult to get in the game. Door positions would have to be revised, though, to prevent dis-balancing the maps.

I also thinks that this feature fits the theme of the game well, and I hope the devs will find some meaningful implementation eventually.

Would be good if Gorge Spit and Bile was able to get doors open then. It basically melds the weld seam away. And turns the Gorge into the alien pendant to a marine welder purchase.

And Exos with fists could bash a door open similar to an Onos, for instant passing rather than waiting for it to be weld open.

I think the Irony is that Aliens have more of a need to block off access more than Marines do for the majority of a round

I image he wouldn't. In NS1 there were many weldable door and vents that aliens couldn't use at all ever and it worked fine as a feature.
