While the effect looks nice and moody, I have recently disabled it for good. Why? Not that it negatively affect performance, my framerate is good and stable throughout the matches, but oddly enough, it causes lag spikes for me - it's strange, but it does. The second reason is that it hampers threat recognition, and really tires my eyes.
However, I have found out a good substitute if one enjoys the effect - at least it works for people wearing glasses like me. Just smear your glasses with greasy fingers, put them back on - and there you go, ambient occlusion. Light coronas? Check. Omnipresent blur? Check. All without the excessive strain to your computer.
