Marine Facial Expressions

I know this is a nice to have not a need to have but it would be great to see expression changes on Marines face (E.g. When they fire their weapon to see furrowed brow and open mouth; When they die to have some type of death expression). When you see trailers and in game the marines look a little too stoney faced. I realise they are meant to be trained soldiers but they would react to some situations regardless.

Is this a limitation of the character model, or is it something that could be brought into the animations?

Marines that have a kill streak going should smirk, death streaks make you look scared

That sounds good, but from the practical standpoint, who in the hellish super fast action NS2 is has time to look for facial expressions? Certainly not the aliens, everything is green and orange for them. I agree that it would be interesting for spectators and recorded matches, and animations could be even more expressive, for example imagine marines looking around paranoically in the darkened sectors without power, or a short animated gesture of triumph after killing an ono, for example.

But I think the priorities are important - the game has far too many problems related to performance, game balance, actual bugs, etc. that I cannot imagine the developer team allocating resources to minor fluff like this.

I certainly don't want my network clogged due to packets like this:

Server -> client: Marine 3 has raised left brow in sarcastic disbelief

If it was all calculated client-side as a form of gfx detail, then okay.

Don't think there really is a big demand for facial animations. Maybe someday. At the moment I reckon it's waaaaay down the priority list. :)

Even in TF2 I hardly notice the facial expressions, even though it has the best implementation of facial animations in any game ever.
