Your files seem to be corrupted. Can't join any servers.

I bought NS2 on steam last Saturday when it was 50% off. Been a fan since NS1 came out. I was able to play just fine right away. On about Wednesday, I started having trouble joining servers. It would say my files differed from the server. I tried again later, and was able to play.

Today however, I can't join any servers. A few seconds after selecting a server, it drops back to meny screen with the message "Your files seem to be corrupted, Try verifying your game files or maybe an update was released." I verified my game files, still have the same error. I restarted steam, turned updating off and back on, still no luck. I tried at least 20 different servers - regular, modded, empty, populated - same error. I deleted my local files and re-installed NS2 and it still wont work. I read about the fraud that occurred, but I bought my copy through Steam, from an email from Unknown Worlds. It hasn't told me I have to buy the game again, I can play in explore mode. I just can't join servers. WTF?

Can you start your own server? If you can, try inviting people to it. Otherwise I have no idea.

@coldguy can you check your mods list in the menu to see if you have any active mods? If you have, try to disable them.

I suspect you are seeing the effects of a small server patch that seems to have broken the anti-cheat file checking. you can look to be sure but opening the console (press ~) and see if it is complaining about pistol.model. If so, the problem isn't you, just something broken on the server end. Sometimes it's hit and miss - you can get in the second or third time if you keep trying.
If that isn't your issue, then back to the drawing board! You can/should also use steam to check your local file "cache" - sometimes something gets corrupted in the downloads and by checking the local files, it will re-download anything required.
    Good luck!

    I would definately reinstall.
Also in your app folder, in your own profile, there is a natural selection 2 folder with your settings and stuff. Delete it, and reconfigure NS2.

OK so i had this same problem today, BUT i finally figured it out! at first i tried everything these guys suggested, checked cache files, deleted steam apps / reinstalled, restarted steam, restarted comp etc. and nothing happened, i still couldnt join servers without that corrupted game files error message.

then i went into properties to check the settings, and remembered when i updated to build 237 i had to go into properties/betas to switch it from 'opt out' to 'beta - patch beta release branch'

so what i did was switch it back to "NONE - opt out of all beta programs"

THEN FINALLY when i restarted steam again and went to my library, next to NS2 it said "update required" and automatically downloaded some sort of mini update that took like 10 seconds to load, and that was that. i started the game and joined a server with no more problems. not sure if this has happened to anyone else but i hope this helps!

odd. you should never need to opt in for beta.
    unless perhaps playtesters
