Those look SO SMOOTH, but I'm sitting here with 30 fps in every combat (end game is way worse).
seriously, how much fps for the game to be that smooth?
I'm getting only like 30 - 40 this patch, it's god awful And that's EARLY game, when I used to get 60+. Lategame when stuff gets chaotic I easily dip below 15.

I imagine its in the 60+fps range. Hugh's work machine (the Octopus) is a beastly 3930k @ 4.4Ghz iirc. It's a bit overkill for playing NS2, but extremely useful for making NS2 videos/streaming NS2.
How can i see how many fps do i get?
After the patch i noticed my fps is deffinetly lower, early game is lagging but playable, late game is a nightmare though.
Got a Q8300 and GTX560ti with 4gb of ram here.

r_stats in console
However, I'm a fan of having an movable, single number so I personally prefer the fps overlays of FRAPs or MSI Afterburner. As long as you don't record a video, it has zero impact on your in-game performance.
The videos are on youtube, which is max 30 fps if i remember right. So if you play at (constant) 30 fps, there should be no difference
edit: i'm wrong, they are not on youtube and i have no idea at what fps they are (but 30 would not surpise me)
it doesn't work like that afaik... a jumpy framerate of 30-50 fps will produce a 'laggy' 30 fps in the video.
i have a weird problem where my fps will be 60-100 in some games, then with exactly the same settings/action on screen/number of players (but on a different server) i will get drops to 20-30 fps.

Type net_stats into console the next time you see that happen. I can almost guarantee the "server rate" value will be dropping to much below 30.

I play with an I7-920 at 4.2ghz and it's hardly "beastly." I feel like nothing even overclocked is too "beastly" for this game, but this patch I'm actually getting amazingly smooth framerates, especially in combat somehow. I'm surprised at the reports that the optimization is bad etc. etc. It's definitely running the best it has ever run.
That is not to say that it's not still ridiculously demanding (especially in regards to CPU), but it's better than ever before.
