Very long loading times + fps drop around infestation no matter what options/res

Hello,
As the title suggests, my loading times are very long. About 5ish minutes on first load of any map during a session and a good 2-5 if reloading the same map after in the same session (which is still faster but not remarkably so). The search tells me this is commonplace but every thread has been very spec-specific so I figured I'd play it safe and make my own with specs included.
2nd issue I am having is that I can run this game just fine at a relatively ok res (say 1024x768) but once I get into an infestation riddled zone my frames will drop to about 12-17ish. I've lowered my res to 640x480 (which on another note is horrible because the text is massive and spans across the screen [so if anyone types I can't aim] and the scoreboard overlaps as well as the server list, I wish that weren't so) and turned off/ to low everything except multi-core rendering and texture streaming. I get the same frames in 'regular' zones whether there is combat or not, but any infestation still brings me right back down to the 17 frames.
Here are my specs: this is a laptop btw
Nvidia 330 gtm
intel i7 q720 @ 1.60ghz
4gb ram
64 bit w7 home
500gb hard drive
a very medium rig certainly, but more demanding games than ns2 run better.
thanks for any hizzelp

This will contain specifics about map loads for you
Your system is really low in regards to performance though, just to be honest with you..
330 is the lowest in the low end, its mobile so its typically already at a disadvantage with clocks and temperature.
But that processor is the real issue. 1.6 ghz is very low for a game that's mostly single threaded and VERY cpu hungry.
I run at 4 ghz and i still have some issues in intense large fights.
I'm afraid i would not call that rig medium today, no offense :-/

Intel documentation shows that IF his/her cpu does completely go into turboboost, it will hit 2.8Ghz.

That SHOULD suffice running ns2.
question of course is, does it run in turbo mode?
Intel® Turbo Boost Technologie monitor 2.6 will give you the awnser. Go look for it.
your vidcard is unfortunately, as stated, very much on the low side.
Do not get me wrong though, I do not expect miracles. That cpu is still not top notch, so I would say.. it should run ns but not on any good graphics.
That will *help*..from 17 fps.. but i still would not call it even a "medium rig" what so ever, or expect to reach even 30 fps. My laptop from 2008 has better specs, and even then it was sold as a "medium" build :-/
But that's unfortunately the nature of most "gaming laptops" sold to people in retail.. They pitch something great, but the user has no idea what low end crap they are actually buying typically, all they know is that that helpful employee said it can play games. Really frustrates me, personally, as i've had countless friends encounter this very issue.
Still curious about his loading times, however, as that HD should be up to snuff.
There was a past thread that people with Vsync turned on caused really long load times.
If your rig can not push out 60 fps, but 55, then vsync will be as lovely as to push it down to 30.
29fps will be pushed down to 15.
I still do not understand how some can use vsync on rigs which are poor in performance.
It gives you the best of both worlds.
The low fps in infestation isn't really the biggest concern for me as I can still handle it long enough to get out of there and no I don't have v-sync on. The big thing for me really is the loading times, I can rarely get on the team I want with my friends because I'm one of the last to join the server every time. I will post what you guys asked later, haven't had much time lately and still don't.
thank you for the replies, I'll be back
