Insert-Placement ? (Example: Copy & Paste into another level-file)
Background:
Often i have to redo the same basic geometry again and again.
All the time i have to create it on existing geometry to get the right size and alignment.
Now the new created geometry is welded to the old geometry, so i have to copy-paste the new geometry.
Select the original new welded geometry to delete it and the final version is the pasted original geomtry.
This takes a lot of time.
New idea:
I made a new level-file with basic geometry, to copy&paste into a current level file i am working on.
Problem:
The insert placement of the current level file is always somewhere else.
If i move to the inserted basic geometry... (with z/y-key to center the view on it) i cant find all of the old geometry (geometry view distance).
Question:
Is there a trick to cut geometry, select another gemotry and paste the cut geometry near the "other geometry" ?
(feature: would be nice a have a feature to select some geometry and press paste to insert geometry near selected geometry)

So basically say in summit I cut Comp lab out, when I paste it into the separate file it will be in the same location. When I am done editing it and copy and paste it back it will be in the same location it was originally provided I did not move it at all.
you need to move the whole new map everytime to get content at the same place of the old map.
you have to read the x,y,z coordinates of the old level file (or the new one)
and move the whole map (of the place your currently working) to these x,y,z coordinates on the new level file (or old level file).
ok, so we need this little feature added to the editor as a: paste it on this location.
why new feature ? (map geometry parts for other people and not - 1 person = 1 map = never finished):
right now every single person is mapping a whole map... and 99% will never get finished.
i would like to do some geometry objects which could be copy-paste into a whole level.
example: self made door surroundings, cabinets, part of walls, ceiling, floors... and so on.
If your problem is you get lost, why don't you just keep working in the same file, but you have your base geometry off to the side of your finalized map. That way you can quickly get to your geo-resources, you know where they are and where they'll appear when you copy+paste.
One man can complete a map, we have many nice examples on the forums which I won't list because I wouldn't want to forget anyone deserving that recognition... but you need to have good working habits and experience helps the most.
Keep it up!
There's very powerful snap tools in the editor, moving things around gets tiresome if you haven't used them yet. Also, Layers they are powerful if you use them smart.
Moved the current working level geometry and inserted the basics geometry near it.
Why paste at cursor-location is usefull ?
I would find it really cool if you could paste geometry on your cursor location like it is done with pasting models.
Fast copy & paste: duplicate at same location (as we know it)
cursor copy & paste: paste it on cursor location (like pasting models from model browser in your map)
It will move your perspective to the new items pasted. Hopefully they are not to far from your other geometry and you can orientate yourself.
