Okay So this problem starts about 2 days ago. When I hit run program on Steam the window saying starting NS2 would come up but the game would not launch but the icon would trn gree and say I was "playing" NS2 for about 3seconds.Then the profile icon turns blue again and the news wll pop up without the game ever launching. I thought the problem had gone away after about an hour when the game launched again. However the next time I tried to launch NS2 it had the same issues and the issus has been present from then until now. Please help with this. I'll do my best to give any informationanyone asks. This has only happened with NS2

Check the integrity of the game cache file just to be on the safe side, and make sure that if you use Teamspeak, Mumble, or any other type of voice chat programs that you have the overlay plugin disabled.

I don't use TeamSpeak or any other voice chat program with NS2. I have already verified the cache several times. I have reinstalled steam entirely including all of the appdata. I have deleted the NS2 %Appdata% and the shaders and use the dxsetup in the redist file and verified the cache. I have 24 hours played on NS2 before this issue began for some background info. Also reinstalled NS2.

Can you reference the stickied posts on instructions on how to provide your DXDIAG, it would be helpful as this is an odd /unreported symptom.
    Thanks

I'll have to post that information tomorrow since I currently do not have internet access on the computer I use to run NS2. Currently at my gf's. However on the dxdiag issue I have looked at it and updated my graphics card driver as suggested through Steam on the problem however that didn't work. I'll be able to put up the dxdiag info tomorrow.

There is the dxdiag information. I can confirm that Steam still runs Skyrim perfectly fine since i reinstalled and have to reinstall all of my games. Another issue that seems to be happening that could bepart of it is often when I try and run steam sometimes it will say it cannot connect to the steam server even though I am online. Often a 2nd try will get through but its another issue that might or might not be related since it only started happening with this issue.

So I have found the problem and fixed it. Turns out a program from Comcast called Constant Guard was preventing NS2 from running as well as causing a couple other issues with my computer. Uninstalled it and it works great now.

Great that you found it, and thanks for posting the fix. I'm surprised it's running great though; if I were you I'd upgrade that graphics card immediately (check forums or ebay for some deals), and then think about moving to a Phenom if your motherboard supports it. At the very least, see if you can overclock.

Haha while I say "great" I wasn't referring to my FPS. It's playable but I've got no money for upgrades. PC is a bit old so I'd rather just save for a newer PC but moneys tight.

That looks like an internet protection program like what Norton Antivirus has. Just to let anybody out there know that does not already, any type of internet security program and video games do not coincide with each other. If you absolutely feel you need internet security, make sure to either put an exception for the games you play, or just turn the security off before you play.
