FPS issues

My frames per seconds value is very low during fights vs marines as a skulk, between 10-20FPS. I turned all graphic options on low or disabled them completely. I consider my PC decent, i5 quadcore, nvidia gtx 460, 4GB of RAM. It is almost unplayable during marine fights and i get killed very often. How can i improve the FPS further? Is the netcode the reason for this low FPS value?

    Welcome to the forum!

The netcode is definitely not the cause for this problem; netcode influences stats like your ping.

At what clockspeed does this i5 quadcore run? NS2 can use up to two processor cores to do its thing. Due to the way NS2 is coded, it will require quite some processing power - the higher your clockspeed, the better it will run.

I'm no Nvidia expert, but that GPU does seem a bit on the weak side. Perhaps someone who knows more about the brand can tell you more - I'm better with AMD stuff.

    2.67 GHz

Agree it's not the most advanced and newest GPU but it's sufficient to run games like bf3, quake live (i know bf3 is not really a benchmark for competitive first person shooters) on medium to high settings. I've never had FPS problems with any game i played so far.

Hm stock speeds? Those cpus were made to be overclocked. Get it to 3.8 Ghz + and things should be a bit better.

Is Texture Streaming on? Turn it off and try that!
