e.g. if i wanted to drop a welder near marine spawn so that they could pick up 1 welder without having to research them first.

    thats a good question, doesnt appear to be any obvious entity that could relate to weapons.

    would require more entities. currently only certain base structure and I guess the exo can be pre-placed as an entity from the list in the editor. I've not tested it, but I guess they are indeed usable or if they could require explore mode to work...
