I love the fact that you have successfully combined an RTS with an amazing and wicked FPS. Thank you X 100000000000
Last night I bought 2 copies for my friends and it was just a blast. Especially that the game was only 5gbs as well. Thank you for the compression :P
MARINES
Marines are an amazing team to play as and I love the fact that you started them off scarce and defenseless at the beginning. It reminds me of AVP2...except I die in 2 hits rather than one ( most of the time )
The guns are simple yet effective and the whole notion of sticking together is truly a great atmosphere to create in the game.
I LOVE THE FLASHLIGHTS. They are very simple but keep the subversiveness present in maps as you glaze over the infectious map to find the aliens.
Flamethrowers and jetpacks are an amazing addition and seeing a Mech is simply breathtaking as I can finally have a sigh of relief that everything is going to be okay :)
Commander functions within the seat are a blast as well. Last night I had my first real run of commander and it was great communicating with my team as well as laying out the future requirements for what we so desired; a win. Popping scans, dropping meds, researching armor is all a blast. I could also tell my team was super thankful with weapon research.

These creatures are freakin weird as hell and I love it. I still don't fully understand the aliens but after playing them the majority of the time I can see that there would definitely be no problem in creating a Marine vs Alien favorite standoff. These guys are badass and totally emit a Zergy feeling of nostalgia. Corrupting the entire map is phenomenal to any artistic layout. The default map looks great...but having the interaction of the aliens either powering down a room or infecting it is flabbergasting.
Aliens are soooo bada$$ at the beginning and grow even more so at the end. I love the fact that buildings can mature and was hoping for a similar effect with the creatures themselves. The ability to climb and stick on walls ( without inversion ) is amazing as well as being able to see in the dark. The camouflage is all too powerful and terribly horrifying as a human to experience.
The layout for the alien design is fantastic as I'm literally hatching myself up the chain and I love that you have successfully turned this race into a completely separate race on its own with it's Khammander. The ability to build a variety of hives each functioning on their own is great as well as creating a plethora of available upgrades that are simply priceless.
Aliens are exactly that.

The ONLY issue I have with this game is the sound. With such a successful environment I would have loved to have better sound.
In aliens vs predator the sound of hissing and the screams of humans were amazing. The guns and shotties would be much more appreciated if they had more than a standard sound to them. The aliens would be more devastating with different sounds and screeches as well as their own breathing or whatever.
What I would love to hear is a marine panting a little bit while running ( not after using all sprint ) and then being able to quiet the ambiance down while holding SHIFT to hear for alien footsteps. Something more atmospheric. Calling out aliens in rooms or a big OH NOESSSSS call or something. And screaming...much more flesh ripping and screaming please :)
Aside from the sound. This game is always a blast and definitely calls out for development. I hope this game is like the aliens. Ever Evolving.
Thanks for your time and commitment to you and your families!

To all the other experienced folk.. Easy on the negativity shall we. We got a new recruit. XD
The reason lorewise why marines seem so fit and not panting and breathing heavy is because the nanites keep them up to shape as much as they can.
Also realise that you are allowed to use client side mods. Depending on the server you can or can not use them. (So if you want different shotgun sounds, you can always find a mod and see if it runs)
I hope you keep enjoying the matches for a long time.
You can infact hear alot of sounds from aliens and marines. Many good players focus on the sounds to hear your enemies.
Aliens do infact make sound, especially if the players use taunt. I love spamming the gorge taunt in battle. its a high pitch one.

u know what people in the community are saying? "UWE only wants to hear from the ns2 drones/sheep". Man, this is oh so true. The moment a new player has a great time in NS2, he gets a reply from an admin and yet hundreds of other threads are ignored when they expose the very issues that exist in ns2, today. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. Wow.
As someone who's been here a while, I consider myself a part of this community and I love NS2, the Devs and the constant ongoing process of patching/balance. This isn't a huge company like EA or Valve. They're a small group of dedicated people. Calm down.
And yeah, welcome to the forums OP. You're stoked. That's awesome.
You wanna know why you don't see many Admin/Dev comments in most of those "exposing" threads? It's because their extremely toxic. A lot of players, especially after the influx from the steam sale, came with a sense of entitlement. They paid their money for the game, and suddenly assume that everything they have to say about Balance should be addressed immediately. Mostly because players dont understand how developers work with their games, and will get pissy when they don't get responded too (another entitlement issue).
You want to see Admins/Devs comment on the serious game balance issues? Then the community needs to clean up their act on the forums. There is absolutely no reason to come off rude, brash, or any form of ######baggery to other players, or UWE about their game designs. But still, people will ###### and complain, and call names, and still expect UWE to answer their every question.
Take some responsibility for your words and actions.
To the OP, WELCOME! I'm completely addicted to NS2 and I'm glad you're enjoying it as much as I am. :D Hopefully you find the forums a bearable place and will frequent them often. ^_^
Hold me.

They already know the game has problems and cannot keep repeating themselves. Plus they cannot take every suggestion in and answer every single question.
And let's try to keep this topic on-topic, shall we...

100% agree with the sound immersion potential there. This game has a LOT to show. I can't freakin wait to see what comes in the future.
Give it too much time and you'll become a slightly disgruntled 'vet' though. So my recommendation is not to play ns2 too much, and enjoy your new found experience while it lasts :p.
True, but I think we all know that is nigh impossible with newly found addictions right :D
I agree with your critique, the sound sucks. Specifically the sound engine. The guy who actually makes the sounds is doing a decent enough job so far, but the sound engine sucks compared to all the other engines...ex: Source ect....

I LOL'd
I've been playing NS since 2003 and really missed it the last 5 years or so before NS2 finally released out of BETA.
All the spoiled little children whining (like Amb in this thread) irritate me. Please grow up. I'm really glad the developers gave us a sequel to such a good game, I consider myself spoiled to even have a sequel to NS1. It felt like a lifetime in coming but was worth the wait.
This game is AAA quality.
We enjoy the game for being diverse, so we are lucky to even have balance issues.

Enjoy team play? For fun? madness!
Welcome to the game new guy.
Even a huge game like World of Warcraft, which is considered by many to be a AAA game, has nonstop complaints about balance. You can never ever make everyone happy.
I think in that regard the devs are doing there utmost best & doing fine.

(This post contains what you might expect for someone typing on an ipod :))
Really what you (and a number of other community members) are experiencing is not that UWE in ignoring you, but that they do not want to get involved in a number of the threads on these forums. Some forum admin or UWE associate will end up reading *Basically* everything on the forums here. But take a passive approach to input. So IMO this really is not an issue.
*UWE*
That being said, please guys when you see a great idea, or incite, or really anyone who spent a lot of time on the forums, just giving them the "Good job, I/We will look in to this" is a huge morale boost to everyone!
And did i mention NO IRONSIDES for the marines! WoooHooo :D
ANyone who says otherwise has no clue what a good game is.
I wasn't talking about those ppl at all! I hate them as much as you do! I'm talking about people like myself who's been playing NS for almost a decade. Yes we do feel a certain sense of entitlement because the old ns1 community is what made UWE what it is today. Yet, they brought in a bunch of new so called "play testers", ppl who's never played NS1 before. So here we are, and this is the game we got.
You see, with so much negativity on internet forums I can completely understand that most devs start to keep a bit distance to the internet community. Hearing a few words now and then - believe it or not! - actually helps to enjoy yourself, especially when people usually write on forums to complain and say what's not working. Happy customers are usually silent ones. So, well yeah, if I could, I would silence you - for you it's a game, for someone else it is a job and from then to then it's just nice to hear a few words of gratitude. Everyone who's every enjoyed having a job in the social or educational sector knows what I'm talking about. The only time the customer talks to you is when he's having a problem or just pissed-off for what reasons so ever ... jeez.
Sooner or later - usually sooner! - you start do detach yourself a bit from the community especially when ye ol' elite starts telling about the days of yore, gorges of gold and gameplay yet unmatched! Yeah, with all the negativity you usually receive on the internet, for the sake of your own mental condition it makes sense to avoid certain kind of threads or at least not to comment. It just drags you down and leads nowhere. I kinda dislike this eliste attitude which is dominate among those who elaborate on what NS2 should be like.

Heh, got me. ._.
AMB has a point, not everyone likes how he is expressing it, but he does have one. I remember charlie, and others, pubbing on a regular basis with everyone asking what they thought, and would openly post frequently on the forums. Then 2.0 came around and they started to backseat, combat came out, the ostracizing of the competitive scene began, and they disappeared behind the curtains. I'm not sure why it happened, because back in 2003 I remember playing with 2-3 of the devs every weekend in pubs, I've been a part of this community a very, very long time, and it makes me sad. I'm glad NS2 came, and it has a ways to go, but It is kind of sad that they development team has been silent to the masses so to speak.
edit:
I have to add, that bothers me as well, that a bunch of new faces walk these boards as if they are gods amongst ants when they weren't there in the beginning like some of us. Without the support and organic advertisement we provided, UWE wouldn't have ever become what it is.
Don't you have your own threads to say how much this game sux and why ?
You have to hijack every post ?
You have to ruin eveyone fun and enthusiasm ?
You are not entitled anything because you were there ten years ago.
You DO NOT represent everyone that was here ten years ago, so don't say "WE feel".
