How to change where the drifter looks?

They just keep looking at one point no matter where you place them.

    I just assumed they had a 360 degree LOS in a short range... facing matters with drifters?

    Pretty sure drifters see in every direction.

    Standart, drifters have vision of everything within a certain radius, 360 degrees around the drifter. It is, however, not an overwhelmingly big radius, which might explain why you've felt that it didn't notice things behind it.

    good dev idea tho. for the alien commander, put a fov circle or shading around the drifter showing exactly how far and where it can see (either when its selected or when its staionary). maybe something similar to the circle when you are dropping cysts.
