Yeah, Nothing like to run away from several skulks, because of no bullets.
But i hope if we could also experience a bit of more horror action experiences like Doom3. Of course, not as much as Doom3. Gameplay experience of ns2 itself is in my opinion already pretty enough, and it's multiplayer game so maybe it would make game more boring if ns2 were too much concentrated on being horror sci-fi game. And probably, if devs are keep working on some lightning effects(without powernode etc.), that might be enough.
Still, i say again that i also think it would be also awesome if we could experience more horror/exciting(nervous) gameplay.
Actually NS1 gave us really good experience being really sharp-minded(nervous, got fear). But i never felt such an experience on ns2. It has more graphical potential and also lightning. Probably because most of maps are smaller than it used to be on original natural selection and maps are good-looking but also too clean in someways. And maybe also because we don't see that much rooms without power.

Yeah. Of course, Sanity. But i mean natural selection 2 :) As i found it kind of a lot similar to Doom3, both design-wise and several gameplay-wise. I just hope to see a bit more horror maybe?
While it would be fun to have a map which played with darker lighting, I don't think it could ever be balanced correctly without being a separate mod like Sanity. Well, I mean..it could be balanced, but would require more time/effort than it would be worth. Whereas in a mod like Sanity you can create gameplay elements (aka flashlights, floodlights, deployable lights for marines, and light-consuming abilities for aliens) which really make lighting and mood the focus of the game.
Much like Axe said, I don't think the Devs are really worried about immersion at this point in time. While I understand where you're coming from, and do enjoy a game that can give you a great sense of immersion, with a game revolving around RTS elements, you need to make sure things like LoS and visibility arent messed with too much, given the fact the one team in the game depends a great deal on good vision, etc.

Dunno why that is but i guess it's mostly the small maps which lead to far less downtimes between encounters. But overall it's an step back compared to NS1 which i still consider one of the most atmospheric MP FPS games to this day.
Kinda sad considering there are so many awesome things they could have added even if it's just for ######s and giggles. Skulks being able to drag dead Marine bodies and nailing them to surfaces or throwing them out of vents (Sourcemod The Hidden anyone?) or other crazy stuff.
Really looking forward to decals tho, those should add a little bit of atmosphere and make the maps a little bit more realistic and believable.
They might as well add in random power blinks if the power node is under attack.
Add in both of these, and it'll be all good.
