<div class="IPBDescription">CPU or monitor?</div>Hi guys,
I've made a topic about this in the Off-topic section but didn't get any replies, so I'm sorry if someone feels this doesn't belong to the general discussion page.
I received a little financial injection this christmas and have now some money to spend. And what do I do, when I got money to spend? Looking for something that needs to be upgraded on my PC.
Here's my present setup:
- AMD PhenomII X4 940@3.4 GHz
- Asrock 770 Crossifire Mobo
- 4 GB DDR2 RAM 800, (4x1GB, so there are no more slots)
- AMD Radeon HD 6950@6970 (Shaders unlocked, OC'ed, stock voltage)
- Tagan U-21 530W Powersupply
- 120GB SSD, 2x250GB HDD
- Samsung SyncMaster BW226 (1680x1050)
- Xonar DG sound card
- Periphery is all well, don't need anything in this sector
I have got 200€ plus what I get out of my old hardware that I'm selling via eBay. So, let's say, roughly 300€. I usually get used hardware myself, though not always when I can find a good deal.
Usually I find it the most fun to upgrade Graphics, since it yields to most obvious performance boosts with the smallest hassle. Also I want to migrate to Nvidia because of their driver-side AA modes. Still, I feel the HD6970 is doing a good job and doesn't need to replaced for another one or two years.
Considering that my CPU, mobo and Ram are getting older and older and I can't even upgrade ram anymore, because DDR2 is incredibly expensive at this point, I've been thinking about swapping those parts. Maybe against a 3570K? Or a used 2500K? Will it make a huge difference? Do you think it's worth spending 300€ on?
What about my monitor? I'm still playing on 1680x1050. It is kinda nice as it gives you some headspace in graphics card performance, but a little more room on the screen might be nice too?
I've also been thinking about getting one of these: <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/AOC-d2757Ph-inch-IPS-Monitor/dp/B008UHINRC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1356805356&sr=8-2" target="_blank">http://www.amazon.co.uk/AOC-d2757Ph-inch-I...5356&sr=8-2</a>
It#s received overall very positive ratings, seems to be a solid 27" screen and has the polarizing 3D as a plus (sure nice for games like trine or dishonored). I think I could live with the low pixel density. What do you think of this?
Any other suggestions? Opinions? Should I just restrain my consumerism and wait it out a few more years?
Discussion is much appreciated!
