I haven't been playing for a long time but I will admit I'm pretty much in love with this game. Proof is that I don't usually even try to suggest ideas because I don't care enough. Okay not proof to any of you since you don't know me but I know it. :P
Anyway! Here goes.
<b><u>Marines :</u></b>
What if the Rifle could be used for different "roles"? By that I mean you could change the type of ammo your rifle uses for a certain amount of resources but they would be for rather "late" games(require upgrades, not -necessarily- late-game). By that I was thinking something along the lines of...
Laser ammo; being better than normal ammo against structures but not quite as good against the aliens themselves. Would definitely serve for a very offensive and obvious purpose all-the-while horrible if you're trying to be a hero since it won't do much damage to aliens.
And/or perhaps plasma ammo, not being instant but being much higher damage against aliens themselves. Due to it being difficult to aim at fast targets, I'd imagine this to be mostly for defense or group offense.
Considering there are "repairbots" and huge mechs, I don't feel like laser/plasma weapons/ammo are far-fetched.
Basically the ammo ideas and the mechanics kinda come from my past experiences in Tremulous. Trust me though; I don't want to even try to make this game more like it, because NS2 is by far MUCH better in several aspects in my opinion. And not only because it's newer, it's just actually properly worked on. So I figured I'd offer those ideas because I feel there's a slight lack of choice in the game <b>for the time being</b>.
Of course due to their potential and role in killing aliens faster, I'd imagine plasma ammo to have smaller magazine sizes than normal(maybe 30~40 shots with 4mags)
And laser, due to it being mostly for structures, could benefit from a bigger clip size(I was thinking approximately 60shots/clip with 4mags)
Laser could have a faster fire rate, to benefit from it as much as possible when attacking a base, but having to reload quickly can be a major issue when fighting aliens, especially if the damage to aliens on it is something close to half of what the regular rifle's damage is.
While I have no idea for it; I'm kinda surprised there aren't any sniper rifles in the game. I'm not a huge fan of it, but it seems like the kind of thing that would greatly help when covering someone/a group of teammates.
I'd basically really like to see more "specific" roles, commander aside, maybe that's just me though. :P While a few players with welders can indeed do very well for the team, those are mostly defensively. And since I don't want to just spam the armory with tons of guns, I came up with just different ammo types.

I will admit I am not quite certain of what may be added for aliens. Perhaps like I have read in another thread; a more defensive type of alien that can pull you in. Or perhaps some kind of "terrain control" alien. By that I mean placing some kind of sacks filled with acid a bit anywhere(but giving them a limit of perhaps 3 active at a time to prevent random spam), sacks that when touched explode and cover the skin with hurtful acid, but mostly, very quickly damages your armor. But if shot from afar, explodes then quickly dissipates instead of lingering around due to human skin not being in play.
It could then be excessively useful when trying to delay humans, but being able to shoot it from far away to make it go away much faster would also reward those who pay attention.
Those were kinda off the top of my head though, but I absolutely welcome and do want feedback/opinions regarding those ideas.
Note : I do not think this game -needs- those things, they are simply ideas, not things I think are a must for the game.
So... Opinions?
