minimap aliens
hi,

i am quite new (well, VERY new) and just started playing...everything fine until now but what really is a problem to me is the missing minimap for the aliens ....i read alot about balancing and so on but until the aliens HAVE a map what would be the problem of making them able to use the minimap too so they dont have to stop in the middle of nowhere and toggle the fullscreen map - and die in this time. especially at the high speed its extremely hard to stay near to your allies or to even know where you are. and i dont think that would be THAT much of a balancing problem. how easy it is for a marine to kill an alien maybe is one.

but the game runs stable and smooth, so only this on positive critics until now :)

thx

Aliens have hive sight, seeing marines through walls clearly when other aliens/parasite affects them or sees them. Press C to open a map. Asymmetric gameplay here.

I think it's largely an issue of making maps more learn-able to newbies.

I really think they should add a minimap for the aliens.
It wont make any difference at higher levels of play where people know the maps and it wont break the game balance, however it would put new players on much more equal footing because when you are new and dont know the maps, everything feels like a ######ing maze and i feel like a tourist who spends most of the time looking at the map trying to find where to go.
Not to mention that when somebody says "we need help at..." you got no effin idea where the heck is that.

You already have hive sight which marines don't have and you want to add a minimap? Sorry but it's a bad idea, aliens are already winning the majority of games as it is and giving them further advantages/convenience will only escalate that. As a marine, the minimap is vitally important and is what separates the two races in asymmetric ways.

When people says "i need help at..." just open your map with C. Sure it's confusing since you haven't played much but that's part of the progression you take from being a noob to being experienced. What happened to games where you actually learn about the game and it's maps? Why does a noob feel that they deserve such conveniences because they are simply new to the game when other players have put a lot of their time into learning the game. Everyone starts at square zero at some point.

You should be checking the map all the time anyway on both marines and aliens unless you're in combat or trying to sneak/detect so unless you aren't doing this you're probably asking for a minimap.

While I know exactly how you feel (I felt the same for the first few tens of hours), you must consider the game's asymetrical design; aliens got hive sight and alien vision to help them orientate (although alien vision can be somewhat detrimental to learning the maps).
My suggestion was to implement a compass for aliens, so you would at least know which direction you have to be headed, but reception was very mixed. --> http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/forums/in...=124302&hl=

Beleive me, once you put some more time into it, you'll be fine. Still, it's not ideal the way it is.

We all had these same issues/problems when we first started. I think you should just use your mic or type and ask the others on your team where to go. There's always at least one helpful player on each team that I've ever been on, and that's how I learnt most of my NS and NS2. You could also try and follow an experienced player around till you learn the maps. But if you are really lost you can always press c and see where you are, which way you are pointing, and which way you need to go. Structures being attacked by marines come up red, so you can head there and defend.
