Disk Read Error (And much more!)

I bought this game today through the Steam Winter Sale, and after downloading it, my Anti-Virus Program, specifically AVG 2013, stopped the download for the NS2 exe. Now, I made it so that my my Anti-Virus allowed this exe to be downloaded, but my computer froze and I exited the Anti-Virus. I checked the Anti-Virus, and on the "Exceptions" list (where I let applications through with me allowing it), there was the NS2 exe. But, when I tried to play the game, it did not allow me because it told me that the exe was not there.

So, I delete the game and re-install it. After installing it again, now it does not stop to say "An error has occured while updating Natural Selection 2 (disk read error). In the Library, next to the name of the game, it says "update paused", and it hasn't gone away. I tried clicking Resume Updating, and then it says 100% and I click Play but it gives me the same error. Now, I don't know what to do and came here for some help.

Any one could help me?

Thank you.

Update: So I restarted the computer and now it works, BUT all I can see is my gun, and the blue/red letters in the game. Simply, I can't see ANYTHING of the game.

I've verified all the game's files, and they are all in there.

    I need help, thank you

If the HDD is actually damaged, trying to boot from it could damage it further.
    Boot from a live cd like <a href="http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop" target="_blank">Ubuntu</a> and run the <a href="http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/37659/the-beginners-guide-to-linux-disk-utilities/" target="_blank">Disk Utility</a> to check SMART and run <a href="http://superuser.com/questions/66820/full-physical-hd-check" target="_blank">badblocks -n</a>.
