Should competitive players disable steam auto-update?

Build 234 dropped last night right before we were about to scrim, resulting in several of our players auto-updating and thus being put out of action. I gather you can set it in steam so that you do not automatically patch to a new build; should this be suggested as a standard for all teams?

Frustrating, because the first patch post 1.0 allowed you to opt-in.

I'll stop b*tching about this now.

I for one is just happy about the devs still patching the game.

I agree, I'm not sure why you would not want to restart the server, update your client and play on the new build.

_Especially_ if you can throw snowballs!

Don't get me wrong. I love that they are still developing / improving / fixing / patching the game. The snowballs / xmas theme is great. We were only going to play a scrim, but what if it was a big competitive match? If a map's been significantly redesigned, a team needs time to adapt to that; if there are balance changes, it can significantly affect strategy.

You may recall that a big anticipated patch did not happen while the tournament in Cologne was underway, I assume for precisely this reason.

And C:\, that exact thing (flash patching) happened prior to another "big" beta tournament, with quite a bit of anger from the competitive community, since it contained a fair few balance changes.

meh, scrims can be going on at any time and it's not reasonable to expect devs to schedule around it, just patch and practice on the new patch
