Gorge blockade backed by whips.

I was playing today and I ran into some of these. We were having a really hard time getting past these. Basically once a gorge (or several) clogs a small door, and the khamm spams it with whips, it's very difficult to take down.

What's the best way to get by this?

    flamethrowers

Kill the cysts, wait for whips to unroot, walk past or just kill them all with axes.

    Flamer.

Gorges run out of juice, cysts die so whips detach, and before that happens the whips stop knocking back grenades.

    This.

On an unrelated note, stop attacking Pipeworks from Empty Space if you can get the power up in Lava Falls, since its a dead zone (read: no power node area) while the power from Lava extends all the way into the entrance to Pipeworks from the east.

There's almost always 2 or 3 ways into a room

Even highly defensible rooms like Onos Bar on Docking can be flanked by jumping into the vents as Marines

Option B is that you get enough people together to break through using a forward armory
9 out 10 the marine counter to alien turtling will be much cheaper on tres than what they already have setup

If it's actually hopeless than focus attention elsewhere
If your pressure is good enough even the gorges will vacate that room to help elsewhere and then just 1 marine by themselves could clean it up

Its not terribly wise to simply ignore a gorge fort, cause he will get bored and start biling your base.

If you're able to take out the cysts keeping the whips rooted behind a gorge blockade, the Khammander is an idiot.

Suicide marine can take the gorge down, kill a few clogs wait for the gorge's adren to run out while healing and clogging and then pick a gap, jump over take the gorge out, you will die but hey you took out the gorge :P
Friendly units move in take down blockade :)

If they're able to set up a couple whips I would hope they went shift/crag hive and just dropped a shift/crags there as well. Any decent commander would drop a shift/crag with the forward gorge.

    correct.
And that gorge can hold the blocking for quite some time, mostlly healing himself because of the few bullets that pass the cloggwall, and quickly replacing any destroyed cloggs.
Add a few hydra's on the wall, and bilebombing over it, and the entire area becomes a pretty tough barier to take, even for jetpacks with flamethrowers.
But when arc's are used to break the defence, that single forward gorge will slowly loose all ground.

I usually do something like this. If anything I just jump over the clogs, get past the whips (if there are more random whips further back in the room this can be a problem) and shoot down the gorge. I do have problems when they are near a crag or have a second gorge with them (which makes getting passed the clog wall it's own problem), if they aren't going down easy I wait for another marine to do what I just mentioned and follow him in and focus the same gorge.

Best way to deal with a gorge in any situation is to take him seriously, don't go in thinking they should be an easy kill. Like if you want to kill a marine that is sitting on sentries, it's not supposed to be easy. Sometimes you got to suicide into a situation to get rid of it, or to start pecking away at it.

    QFT.

There's nothing that can't be beaten by arcs, due to the area effect. You can spam a room full of whips and crags, and 3-4-5 arcs will take it down pretty rapidly. That's what they're made for - to take down alien fortifications (sieging).

As an alternative suggestion, go somewhere else before ARCs arrive.
