How would one approach about changing the gameplay format
Hey guys,
I've been thinking about creating a mod where you can select the race to play rather than the standard Alien vs Marines. This will allow unique matches such as Alien vs Alien OR Marine vs Marine. I've always been fascinated with Starcraft/Starcraft 2 and the competitive scene thats behind it. In the competitive scene for SC2, player will focus on playing a specific race and learn to master it against any match up. With the different race match ups, each match is plays out different in speed and style. I feel that allowing NS2 teams to focus on a specific race will make them more unique to the community and will also vary how each match will play out. Here are some ideas I wanted to incorporate:
- Ready Room will display Team 1 and Team 2 instead of race.
- Players will spawn in separate rooms where the Commander is designated and race is chosen. (Will require a modded map)
- GUI appears in the separate team rooms that will allow plays to select "Ready" to start the match and displays who the Commander is and the race they have selected.
- Race options are Aliens, Marines, and Random. (Teams will not know what the race will be when Random is selected. They will be forced to scout).
- Designated Commander will automatically spawn in the Hive/Chair.
- The rest of NS2 aspects will remain the same.
Now here are some of the challenges I see with this gametype:
- There are no separate hitboxes for the players (head/body/arm/legs). Headshots or "weak alien spots" should be rewarded a bonus, but this will change the feel of the current state of NS2.
- How buildings will react when playing same race matches (AvA or MvM).
With my idea out, I wanted some help into how I should approach this and some feedback about the idea. I just thought it would be a cool concept and would really like to create something like this. Thanks!

This would also have to extend to things like cysts and infestation - does one team get yellow infestation and other green? What happens when they meet?
How would marines own power nodes? Would they own them at all?
How would alien vision work? Every alien would look the same.
Then you got how the two sides are designed to fight eachother. Sorry I just don't think MvM or AvA would work well.
