    The OP raises a good question, and while there are some people quite happy with the current alien 60/40 win imbalance, I would like to think there should be an explanation other than 'buy another one because they are cheap'.     Because welders are not as powerful as jetpacks in most situations.

    Marines should honestly be able to win without much difficulty if they even have JP.

    It's just not fair to the alien team. There should be consequences to dying so that the team that wins a fight can gain momentum in the game. Weapons being retrievable already violates this to some extent, but proto gear is just going too far. I don't think it would even significantly increase marine win rates, it's just not a very good idea.
