Tools and ergonomy

Hi,

I used to have some tools like "netgraph 3" in NS 1. it would be great to be able to have that kind of tools in order to "spot" the bugs like the performance issue in late games or the "reg - ghost bullet - issue".
recording :
-network activity
-FPS rates
-client vars & config
-some internal message from the engine
could help. Would be better than video...

2/ Would be great to have a FPS testing routine. I believe it would be better than console commands and test & retry stuff.

3/ I'd like to have a gorge keyboard set, or commander keyboard set, or... and mouse wheel assignment. I don't know if it is possible already but didn't see it.

    all available console commands:

    edits: "r_stats" might do it

i was talking more of a single keybinding / tool.

    You hit the key, the client side enables the "i'm watching you and logging" mode;
then at the end of the game : "would you like to upload datas" (Y/N).
It is highly doable and would be less cranky than what we have now (youtube vids).

This get us back to the "poor" (i'm afraid so) keyboard interface set up.
The keyboard setup was one of the thing that made HL definitly so cool at the time.

The most usable commands are r_stats, net_stats and profile.

Note that you can type "record <demoname>", to record a demo.

...and what if you could just bind it on a key?

...and what if it was already built in the game?

I do understand that a lot of ppl just don't want to open a console. Ppl don't like to install OS, they just don't want to loose their time doing it. They prefer to use it. Accessibility is the key to make good appealing programs.

You can make the best program ever, if the ergonomy sucks, you'll find that your program just don't get many "votes".
HL1 was a crappy engine. But, and that saved the day, with a lot of "tunable" things in there (like huge keyboard setup).
    Easy to do, huge improvement.
