I saw this strategy used when I was playing as aliens on the map that had the hives in the cargo bay, great viaduct and power silo. As alien we all started off with the usual rush and got to the marines base to find only one marine and the comm out of 7 who were both saying in caps over the pubilc chat "come back you fu*king noobs". Anyay we chewed them up and believed we had won until we noticed that the marines were spawing elsewhere. We realised just in time what they had done which was to build their base at the cargo bay hive area from the start then start pressing down to the great viaduct with siege guns. The game became bogged down in a massive fight for the viaduct with some of the best game play I have seen since this game came out.
I think this tactic has some major advantages provided the nearest hive is empty, because it means that the aliens have to destroy you to get the 3rd hive but they can't get onos or bile bombs without the third hive <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' valign='absmiddle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> There has been many a time when I was under seige at the end as a marine from onos and bile bombs thinking that we could turn it around if the aliens never had that third hive.
