Feedback on some music

Hey guys, I'm thinking about maybe trying to contribute a couple of ambient songs. I've been listening to the Starcraft 2 soundtrack for some inspiration and I prototyped an idea in about 30 minutes. I'm curious to get some feedback: like/dislike, fit/doesn't fit, in general should I continue?

Off to play some NS, any comments would be great. Thanks!

I'll take a listen. I'm actually undergoing a project to re-create NS1 music with a more modern feel.

There are a few places where the beat is offset slightly. At 25 seconds you hear it hitting properly in time but the 35 second one you can hear the notes don't hit exactly at the same time and it causes a minor disconnect. I like the "repeating" sound (the wah wah wah upwards). For your drums/beat, try throwing in some reverb to make some wetness on them. They really help prevent it from sounding dry and "fake".

Additionally, adding wetness to a drum hit can create a sense that you are in a massive room. The following link isn't NS related, but it's an example of how I created a "dry" area where there's not too much going on and then hit hard with a wet "drum" hit. The effect is quite nice.

I recommend turning up your volume to a comfortable yet "filling" level for the full effect.

Start at 1:16 to get a general feel of how the song is going
1:28 is where a lot of the busy work is dropped and it's much simpler and quiet
1:36 the wet drum slams in giving a very ominous feel

I assume you're talking about the congas and the8 bit drums? The kick itself has a pretty decent plate reverb on it. I'll add some more but I hate soaking things in reverb... Too mushy.

True, too much is, well, too much. Healthy balance is good. :)

Also the anvil hits sound nice.

Just as a warning, the community here doesn't care much about fan-based music. I posted some stuff awhile back and didn't get one response. People are more interested in things they can see or play with. Music really takes a backseat in the industry these days. Unsung heroes, and such. It's at an official level, as well. There's a modding forum, a mapping forum, an artwork forum and a writing forum. You won't see any kind of audio forum. It's not just here but the industry as a whole. Even contests from game companies such as Valve. There's map submissions, texture submissions, model submissions, but never an option for audio submissions. Audio isn't something someone would "buy". It's not something you can show off. Audio always takes a back seat.

Yeah I know, I've done audio work before and it's not something really flaunted. But hey, try watching a movie on mute. It's nearly as good :P

Also Added a guitar... Trying to go for an isolated feel. Less massive reverb, more tile and bathroom reverb. I want it to sound cramped, but at the same time alone.
